NFS mounts in OS X

I've been trying to mount an NFS share on OS X without much success.

The share is on a freebsd box and it has mounted fine before in Linux etc.. I did mount_nfs servername:/share /mnt from the command line, with no errors, but when I try to cd or ls to the mountpoint I just get "Permission denied", and this is as root.

From the gui it appears as if the directory where the share is mounted doesn't exist, very odd. Anybody had experience mounting NFS shares before in OS X, I thought it was a transparent thing that *nix supports without complaining ;)
