    I called 11811 and got the number 01 2420959

the woman on the phone said i needed a credit card to pay the installation
i do not have a credit card and im not going to get one just to pay a one time charge

Why do they have to make everything so damn difficult
i already spent 5 weeks trying to get NTL out to install digital cable and then they found out it wasnt available in my area

Is there anywhere i can go
like an office somewhere that i can go in an give my bank details and pay the installation in cash or some other way without a credit card

Please tell me if you know how to get it without a CC
    thanks

    ---
    Eric

    Hi there....

Now here's a shot in the dark.....

Hows about going into a TV Shop???? They sell TV's and, surprise surprise, most are authorised Sky dealers!

Fill in the form, get direct debit setup etc etc.

In a couple of days, your card is sent out and their installer comes along! (sometimes vice versa)

    Easy peezey lemon squeezy.

Sometimes the old ways are the best. I wouldnt get something like getting Sky done over the phone. (personal preference)

    HTH,

    Damo.

We only accept credit cards because in the past people have ordered sky and then cancelled at the last minute so for us it's a way to get a commitment from the customer that they are serious.Damos suggestion is sound , you should find a local tv dealer and pay cash for the installation, should be no problem. Unfortunately we cannot take cash in advance as we are not a traditional retail outlet.

    Good luck getting sky

I used a credit card cause at least you get a month or so to pay your bill, unlike direct debit in which the money is taken directly out of your account, every month.

also if u got a credit card it wouldn't just be for a once off charge, cause sky demand that all bills are payed by credit card or direct debit, the former being the best in my opinion.

Sky don't just send out a bill every month, like NTL (and then u go to the bank and pay it), instead they take the money automatically every month either by CC or DD. So either way you'll have to set up something.

Another advantage of CC sub payment is that you can pretend you live in Northern Ireland.

If you pick the right retail shop (one that does repairs, aerials etc), that is very good on customer care they may use a "proper" installer. Some installers do not have much of a clue. It makes a big difference when it rains or the trees grow!

How can u pretend you live in N.Ireland if the address on your credit card clearly shows your real Republic address.

If this is the case maybe every Sky subscriber in Ireland should do this and all Sky would have over here are bootleg subscribers to their UK CHANNELS!!

    Can't be that easy...

Beacuse it would cost time and money for sky to contact the credit card company, as long as they get paid they are not going to rock the boat.

But wouldn't the address that you give have to be a valid address in NI with a tv licence, like it does for the FTV cards?

You need a valid address with a valid postcode and a phone number. After that it's plain sailing.

thanks for the tip i got it in dixons yesterday and there coming to install it next week :D

what extra channels do you get in NI?
is that why you lie about where u live?

i already have cable so all i wanted was the movies package because NTL couldnt give me digital and they wouldnt give out any more analogue decoders :(

Yes a valid address but this has nothing to do with the cardholders address, I'm not sure it's necessary to be even a licience holder for subscription cards.

I'm sure Sky don't care if you have insurance for your car either, as long as you pay them the money ;o)

I think the TV licence thing only relates to FTV cards, as they are part of a scheme set up by the BBC and put into action by $ky/BT on the Beebs behalf. BBC via Sky subscription cards is part of a different commercial agreement between $ky and the Beebsters, and as the majority of those subbing to Sky are in the UK/have licences, they wouldn't be ars*d to check that sort of thing.

On the subject of credit cards, if the funds are available and payment received by Sky, they have no right to get credit card account info from your bank - they have to just go by the address you give them. Some companies do however ask for the address at which your credit card is registered, but this is to prevent credit card fraud involving mail order etc. Credit card numbers are generated by a rather complicated formula and are not country-coded, so they are a good way of paying for overseas services.

Not quite true, any merchant can ring the credit card company and ask for an address check against the one the have on file,(whther payment is authorised or not) in practice though it's unlikely sky would ever do this.
