Reckon I can answer a few of them...

    1. Is there any newbie linux websites to look up

There's loads, but I usually start at linuxnewbie.org.

    2. how do i set up my modem in linux. Its a winmodem.

You don't, because it's a winmodem. Well, mostly, but you might be lucky.

    3. How do i set my IOL SNl connection

Depends on the GUI you're using -- on KDE use kppp, can't remember which on Gnome. It'll be in the docs.

    4. Can i upgrade to Red Hat 7.3 and how

Yes. With Red Hat 7.3 CD's obviously.

    5. Is there any good linux books to buy.

Dunno, I'm not into academic books.

    6. Which is better KDE or gnome

Each to his own. I prefer KDE.

    7. Is there a windows enmulator avilable

Yip, there's Wine, which is a free emulator; and VMware, which is an excellent commercial virtual machine.

    8. What can i do in linux i cant do in windows

    Nothing. Everything. Silly question.

    9. Can anyone name a good download site for linux applications.

    Freshmeat

    Have fun,
    adam

    5. I have a copy of RH 6.0 unleashed here that I can give to you (someone left it in my friend's house). PM if you want it. It's a good book, but handier for reference.

    6. I prefer KDE. Asking that though is a bit like saying 'What's your favourite theme in Windoze?'. They might look different, but they do all the same stuff.

    :)
