15 minutes of fame

It is said that the average person will only experience 15 minutes of fame.
    Where will yours be?
    has it happened already?
do you expect more than 15 minutes?

( ex. saving someones life, being in the news for something etc...)

I dont believe it has hit me yet...but I feel it will be longer than 15 minutes and arrive in the world of the arts somehow...through my paintings or books.

    LOL echo island!:)

1 second 15 frames of a close up of me appeared in a documentary about lap dancing ...... (i worked on it and was forced to include it :) ), Unfortunatly, they used that clip of the show on The Late Late Show.

Err, my arm is holding a camera light at the end of The Charlton Years if that counts :P

Dusty, perhaps you should try some fight-club style editing? You know, insert a frame of you into every production you work on, a few times per production?

    Maybe even this one:

I do a fair bit of TV/Radio stuff - financial programs, business commentary on the games markets, that kind of stuff; occasional interview slots about games as art or whatever.

    However....

My 15 minutes of fame, as far as the bástards I hang around with are concerned, will always be the first time I did live TV, and spent 10 minutes being ritually abused by Dustin the Turkey on the Den while I tried to promote a magazine we'd just launched.... :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,972 ✭✭✭SheroN

ah i remember it well rob, i thought there was gonna be tears and/or bloodshed. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Dustaz

    Shinji just owned the thread.

I dont care if someone married madonna, Appearing with Dustin beats anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,658 ✭✭✭✭The Sweeper

That's very true. Dustin is teh win.

So I don't have to bring up my repeated appearances on Jo Maxi then?

    Phew...

when were you on the Den. have you it recorded. maybe put it for download so we all can see your fame/misfortune of being abused by a turkey :)

Bertie Ahern gave me a medal on the 6 o'clock news when he was Lord Mayor. Also I appeared on the Brush Shields show, which was RTE's finest ever program starring some guy from an old irish band ever.

My picture was put into all the papers. Also, the President of Ireland awarded me a plaque and a stereo, which was nice.

And all because I caught my mate falling out of tree after he got electrocuted.

I (our band) supported Ocean Colour Scene in The Olympia, and in Queens Hall in Belfast. Also supported Aslan, in K2 in Howth. Was fun.

omg you dont get away with it that easy. Joe Maxis is a period of utter shame for irish television and thus you need to provide us with full details so we may take the piss out of you.

So i rang him but got no answer...
So could someone ring as i can't seem to get through and can't be bothered to leave a message on the machine. and then someone can upload it :p

I was on echo island :P i was also on tv3 news for about 3 seconds in an interview of ppl at the point that year.

I was mentioned in the sun (i know) earlier on this year when my dad won an obscene amount of prizes in one night (a car, 75,000 euro and a trip to the copacabana) ,

and on the radio 2 weeks later when my mum won a bmw 3 series :D

No chance Dusty, if you want the tapes you have to trawl through the archives for 'em.

...and yes, the couch WAS covered in real sweets...

Although to my shame I must admit to having been on Joe Maxi as well, I think my girlfriend's claim to fame is worthy.

She was one of the extra dancers in the Podge n Rodge "Collost-o-you, Collostomy" video.

My only claim to fame lasted for about 5 seconds, I made a brief appearance along with about 20 others on the 6 o'clock news. I didn't even think anyone spotted me until I got home and someone mentioned it to me - I hadn't told them there was the chance they would see me on d'telly.

ROFL, that was a class video. You have it playing in my head now.

BTW, someone somewhere must have the tape with Shinji and Dustin. I'd say it would fetch a handsome price on the "For Sale" board :)

RTE would have it in their archives surely? Someone might be able to ftp an mpeg to yorema or some other site.

I'd actually kill to see Rob being taunted by dustin :):):)

I remember seeing Rob on some other computer game show, thumb bandits I think it was, they got his name wrong :) Mr Farhey. I think it was something to do with games that blatantly court controversy cant really remember, I was drunk when I saw it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

Yeah that was the bit on Thumb Bandits... And like so many before, they did indeed spell my name wrong.

By the way, anyone who acquires that tape of me and Dustin immediately becomes a target for my crack team of, er... I don't know. But it'll hurt.

"The Works" when I was 11.

    "Are ye laffin?"
    "Not really, no"

    Take an Iota.
We beat Raphoe from Donegal. I went a bit mad and spent some time in rehab afterwards. It's all been downhill since.

Does anyone know what year/month/day/time it was on? (the rob vs. dustin showdown) Or some details which would make it possible for me to get the thing tracked down, i.e. what the name of the mag he was promoting was?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,468 ✭✭✭Lex_Diamonds

A discrete **** in Pajo's Junkbox (not really fame though is it?)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,972 ✭✭✭SheroN

the mag was G4 (still have a few copies lying around here someplace)...it was in 1998..or maybe very early 99......not too sure.
