after having problems with my pc, i am trying to use the HDD [with win2k on it] on another pc that works fine mechanically

then progress bar works its way to the end during boot up [after the os loader option screen] but fails to startup. the same problem occurs in safe mode etc

im not sure why this is happening ? any suggestions ?

    Hi,

There loads a things you could do, but probably the easiest would be to pop in youn win2k cd, and do a repair install of Win2k.

That way you dont lose all your stuff, and it will fix this kinda problem ever time.

pop the drive into another machine running some sort of NT OS as a second hard drive, copy all your stuff accross or burn it, and do a reformat.
Will stop anything reappearing in the future.

Your new system probably has a different chipset/ide controller. If the ide controllers are different it's borked.

    what _CreeD_ said
the drive is fine(and your install is probably still fine) but when w2k is installing(as with most os's) it detects the hardware and decides what to install.

so the install if configured for your hardware configuration.

there is no easy way out of it and a repair/reinstall will only make it work on the machine it's in right now
