    Right,

Since I will be heading there for the first time to do my Masters, I want to know a few things about the place.

    Stuff like,
What's the story with computer labs, and access and all that?
    1. Is the IT building any good?
    2. What OS's will we find?
    3. How quickly will we get network access, and what restrictions are imposed (allocated storage space, etc). AFAIK they were running NT4 the last time I used the college facilities, and I think Netware was managing network security.
    4. How much are print cards, and are they good value.
    5. I hear there's a wireless network running in the college. Is it possible for students to access that with their own wireless devices.

    What is freshers week like?
    1. When does it take place (usually), 2nd/3rd week yeah?
    2. What kind of stuff usually goes on?
    3. What's the price of drink in the college bar like, compared with town?

    Things to do while there
    1. When do clubs & societies start up
    2. What's the food like in the college, price, and where to go?
    3. What's the library like for up to date computer books

You'd think the amount of time I was in UCG, I be able to answer these questions, but I never got around to finding out. I also find the web site, is too general, and doesn't give a low down (student's view/guide) of the campus. Which would be nice :)

    Cheers ;)

    IT Building is ok :)
    Nice new thing it is.

You can bring in your won laptop into IT101
There are two burners int ehre atm, both machines are either fúcked or are going to be imaged.
Afaik they're going to upgrade most of the colelge to Win2k.
    Space restrictions are:
User Services Account (bog standard - for arts students)20meg
IT account (F:drive) ~70 ro soemthing, I think it can go higher though
IT account (geminga drive - capped to 200meg, but there are - ah -ways around it :)
Frink - Compsoc's box - 1gig soft quota, 2gig hard cap, and IRC port open - no DCC though :'(

As for wireless - I heard some mumbling about it, cold be changed by september, dunno tbh.
I ehard that there's an atennae on the roof now - might ahve something to do with GalwayWAN ?

Printing is up in a heap atm.
In the IT building there was a rash of Commerce students pringint reams of stuff out. Cost thema bout €40000 oeverall I think.
They've enforcfed a strict quota of 15 pages per week I think. I dunno what the setup is with that.
For student services its about 12c a page, but I'm lead to believe that if pringint out a load of pages at once it's lower.
Every print job prints with it a receipt with your name, student no. and account info. There might be astanding cahrge for that receipt included in every job - I dunno. Tis not mcuh anwyays.
You can get photocopying cards too. Dunno about the pricing, never really used em.

freshers is int eh 2nd week. Clubs&Socs day is during it afaik.
    Pints are slightly cheaper.
They have weiss bier - Warsteiner at elast

Library aint to good for computer books afaik, I never really lookedtbh, cept once when i was loking for a book on C - couldn't find one, They ahd laods of Java, perl and otherstuff there though.
    You can request books afaik.

Canteen aint too bad for prioper lunches.
It's not great though. Judge for yourself.
