    Hi,
Last Wednesday\Thursday, NTL upgraded the Cables on my road. Reason being, that someone down the bottom of my road rang up asking for GO Digital, Was told it was unavailable(old Cables), He\she kicked up a fuss, gave out loads I believe, Pointed out they would go and get a dish just as 10 of 34 houses on my road have, So the decided to replace the cables.(The ntl guy told me that.) So anyway the new cables were installed, should be a better reception??? wrong, Cablelink\NTL was always dodgy in my house, reason why I got SKY in, and what happens the reception has gotten worse since the new cables went in!!! So there you go thats why I think ntl are ****. Two other points. I noticed that the tap going into one of my neighbours houses has been disconnected!! meaning that the two other houses up from that no longer have NTL??? one of them has sky!!!! When you disconect from NTL do they physically disconnect the connection? 2. The ntl guy told me that, Their not doing the Cable modem or the telephones anymore.

Yes. The will disconnect it as you saw from the tap.

half right half wrong. ntl are not installing their own telephones anymore. they have stopped doing that. they are however doing carrier pre select, where you can have their call charges still pay eircom line rental. And they are still installing cable modem !!

    Thats great to hear.

They told us (IrelandOffline) that they are installing cablemodems in the areas already upgraded to two way standards (about 25,000 homes). They stopped upgrading to two-way standards around April or May 2001 and have no plans to continue the upgrade process for the forseable future.

I live in an area where they upgraded the cable to digital TV standards because the original cable was of poor quality, however digital TV does not require the same type of equipment and fibre in the head-end.

I have to say, though, that their standard analogue TV service is reasonable with very few outages. I'll probably stick with that until Sky introduce a decent range of UK terestrial channels.
