I'm half drawn on this. On one hand it'd be good for the new PDA mobiles out, but on the other hand........real-time chat, but in text!

FFS...why would you real-time chat by text if you're holding a freaking phone!?

And no doubt someone will come up with the bright idea of charging per character, resulting in sum seriously terrible abbreviations.

Whaddya reckon? Flop? I think it would certainly work if it was always-on, i.e. free, instead of having to initiate it like a call.

'Incoming IM call from DeV. Answer?'
"A ffs y dnt u jst rng me"

    :)

Two years ago someone suggested to me a WAP chap application – to which I replied “What a fscking stupid idea”, for much the same reasons as you highlighted yourself.

Ironically, it’s actually one of the more popular things on WAP out there as companies such as Jumbuck will testify.

People love to chat anonymously (look at Boards :D ), and with GPRS’s always on effect, it actually makes the model viable from a users (financial) point of view.
