This might not be the right forum but does anyone know any web page which includes a list of the various sports events and the different channels which have the rights to them

Your're right, its the wrong area. Moved to Broadcasting.

    Now, to answer the query...

This is probably the most complete list, these are the sports, protected under UK legislation.

If they are on the "B" list, it means non-exclusive coverage can be guarenteed for terrestrial viewing.

    http://www.culture.gov.uk/PDF/listed%20_events.PDF

    So..... For the rights holders

Group A. Full Live Coverage Protected.

The Olympic Games: BBC and RTÉ
The Fifa World Cup Finals Tournament: BBC/ITV and RTÉ
The European Football Championship Finals Tournament: BBC/ITV and RTÉ
The FA Cup Final: BBC and Sky
The Scottish Cup Final (in Scotland): BBC Scotland and Sky
The Grand National: BBC and RTÉ
    The Derby: BBC
    The Wimbledon Tennis Finals: BBC
The Rugby League Challenge Cup Final: BBC (secondary rights to Sky)
The Rugby World Cup Final: ITV and RTÉ

    Group B. Secondary Coverage Protected.

Cricket Test Matches played in England: Currently 7 Test matches per summer, Sky are contracted to show one test live and exclusive, while Channel 4 shows the others live and exclusive.
Non Finals Play in Wimbledon Tournament: BBC
All other matches in the Rugby World Cup Finals Tournament: ITV and RTÉ
Six Nations Rugby Tournament matches involving the home nations: BBC and RTÉ
    The Commonwealth Games: BBC
    The World Athletics Championships: BBC
The Cricket World Cup - The final, Semi-finals, and matches involving the home nation's teams: Sky (no-one currently has the terrestrial rights for the 2003 tournament)
The Ryder Cup: Sky (live) BBC (highlights)
    The Open Golf Championship: BBC

Where it shows RTÉ, it means that they cover it, but it in no way means anything regarding UK legislation. Its just that they show it! If there is any other sporting rights, just ask.

Some further background to the UK legislation is found here http://www.culture.gov.uk/PDF/sport_on_television.pdf
