    Hi guys,

I'd like to go on a long weekend/5-day type trip w/ my gf in September or October. Needs to be somewhere in Europe, and w/ half-decent weather if possible - Sun would be very good.

Being inexpensive is a major factor.

    Any recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Al.

    Paris:
    Cheap to get to.
Expensive enough when there, but costs can be cut if you stay in a crap hotel or a hostel and are careful about where (and what) you eat.

    Prague:
    Expensive to get to.
    Everything is cheap there.

Both are amazing cities and I heartily recommend either.

Amsterdam is also an option but 'tis not really a place to bring the missus.

I reckon Paris has the best weather of the three.

    Thanks for the suggestions Samson.

Paris: possibly - speaking french is handy :)

Prague: different. Anyone got a clue how much it is to get to?

Amsterdam: Missus: don't think she'd have any probs whatsoever (your milage may vary ;) ).

Anyone else got ideas? October timescale...

    cheers,
    Al.

Neither Aer Lingus or Ryanair fly direct to Prague (I think, though things may have changed since I was there last), so the most practical option is to fly with BA from Stanstead.
For a return ticket with a Saturday night included expect to pay in the region of £150 to £200 sterling each.
To get to and from Stanstead book a Ryanair cheap flight (well in advance).

Amsterdam is for the most part a beautiful city anyway.

as far as cheap European destinations are concerned Ryanair only fly direct to Paris and Brussels.

Personally I'd go for Barcelona... great city, great nightlife and at that time of year I'd warrant the weather would be perfect.. flights aren't terriblely expensive either (I know one or two ppl who went over to Sonar on the cheap like..)

Czech airlines fly direct from Dublin to Prague and the cheapest fare they have in October is EUR310.00 plus taxes.

Aer Lingus are going to have a service to Prague this winter but details have not been announced as yet.

You could also try to get a connection with Ryanair via Stansted. They have flights from Stansted to Montpellier and the fares start at GBP9.00 each way. Lovely city and good value to dine and drink for France.

Paris is wonderful - cheap flights with Ryanair

the food doesn't have to be expensive, if I lived in Paris, I would never shop again for food, I would just go to the delicatessen and buy something there, they have everything (they can be found on any side street) and the bloke behind the counter is very helpful and will also recommend what wine to drink with your food. Paris is only expensive if you eat/drink on the popular roads/places - once you walk a little away from that, it get's cheaper. To eat out, just go to the left bank, where there are so many restaurants that they have to keep their prices down to compete with each other. (the left bank is across the the river from Notre Dame)
Le Bastile is a little like Temple Bar, pubs and nightclubs for all tastes.

if you're going to party then Amsterdam is the way to go, especially if you like your smoking, nothing like smoking a fat one as you sit by the canel watching the boats go by.... not sure why Samson said it mightn't be for your missus, I mean if you're going with her, there is no need to view the red light district thoroughly :D, though I do recommend having a look as it's quite an eye opener when you see it for the first time, go during the day, I found it a bit dodgy at night, especially when I had 4 black blokes following me trying to sell me herion/coke/sex, basically anything I wanted!! :D

    I'd say go to Prague.
Its a fantastically beautiful sop, and altough its expensive enough to get to, you would live like a king over there, its so cheap.
Budapest is supposed to be equally beautiful and inexpensive.
I'd go to Prague soon though if your planning on going there ever, in the next few years i reckon it'll turn into another Amsterdam. Which is fine if you like that sort of craic.
