I reckon your memory is still in its DIMM slot, but your free space is in the recycle bin.

In english if you would. Explain as you would to a retarded penguin, ie nice and simple

What he means is that your "memory" (which is part of what makes the PC go, having nothing to do with your hard disk, where your information is kept) is still in the machine.

The stuff you deleted is probably still in the Recycle Bin, still taking up space on your hard drive (where your information, programs, mp3s and porn are kept). Right-clicking on the Recycle Bin and clicking "empty recycle bin" will probably cure this)

Like the difference between fish and feathers, young kohai penguin. Fish is what you consume - necessary to live - supplies go up and down as you use the things. Your feathers, though you use them all the time, stay constant.

Right Click C: Drive in MyComputer>>Properties>>Disk Cleanup>>delete un wanted crap etc.

    ControlPanel>>Add Remove Programs>>Delete crap

    C: Drive>>Have a lok around>>Delete crap

    Desktop>>Internet Exploer>>Right Click>>Properties>>Temp Net Files>>Delete Files

Start>>Find/Search>>Files+folders>>Search for Temp, TMP, *.old and delete accordingly

I know most of that baz but thx anyway. My question is once again: I had 4 gigs left in my hard drive last. This morning with NOTHING CHANGED, I had and still have 2.17 gigs. WHY?

That's strange to say the least. The few things I can think of that would cause such a thing are swapfile and temp files. It's a lot of space so fast - you didn't write any CDs with Nero (sometimes fails to wipe off the temp CD file)? Check your swapfile size if running Win95/98/Me (c:\windows\win386.swp) or your pagefile if running NT/2000/XP (c:\pagefile.sys) just to see how big they are.

If it's not temp files or an errant swapfile (and if it's not a system restore point if you're using Me or XP (are you?)) then it's very odd indeed.

    Check your swapfile size
    120 megs.

Im running Win98, didnt write any cds, am pissed about my missing memory, enjoy fried rice with a dollop of spare ribs sauce and at present have one hell of an itchy arse.

Kdja am very grateful for your help but this is just for uninstalling stuff whereas my above question still remains?
I had 4 gigs left in my hard drive last. This morning with NOTHING CHANGED, I had and still have 2.17 gigs

I deleted a load of stuff as Im soon planning to install 3 games. So was Windows just giving me false hope and being a prick or what?

    Edit-Apalling typos

is 4 gigs your total hard drive space??

    if it is
    windows uses 33mb (thereabouts)
a game would be typicaly 500mb and higher.

how many games you got and where did you see this 4 gig part??

    kdja

is 4 gigs your total hard drive space??

When I saw 4 gigs, I went to My Computer and clicked once on C drive. It said:
    Free: 4 Feckin GB

As for games I have 16 installed.

I think its a bug in FAT32 but every now and then it loses track of free space and reports it incorrectly.
Just run a scandisk and at the very end of the scan it'll fix the problem.
To do this goto 'my computer' and right click on the affected drive probably C: and then goto propeties and then tools and 'check now'.
