Hi, I havent a clue what im doing really (just to state my newbiedom :) )

I have a few questions i cant seem to find the answers to in the FAQ or here already.

    1. What are bases for? They cost a pretty penny and dont seem to do anything.

    2. How do I set up a trade route? I own 2 planets, i with a base in 2 different sectors with warp links between them. I can trade normally but when i set up a link it just goes between them without trading anything.

    3. Is there a way to change what planets produce for sale?

    4. If I leave my ship on a planet (log out) can it be destroyed when im not there?

    5. Oh and whats the story with making more than one planet in the sector? Does it do anything apart from saying "look im here!" ?

    1. Bases allow you to have more than 10 mil on your planet(s)

    2. Click on trade center, figure it out from there, its fairly easy to mange, but you usually want to have a trade route between two ports not planets. Goods and Ore is the best combination.

    3. Yes, don't sell anything from your planet its a major no no, just use your planet to make cash.

    4. Yes.

Maybe im thick or something but I still cant figure it.

    I click 'trade control'
    create a new trade route
select starting point as a planet i own
(whats the port option? - my base?)
select ending point as a different planet i own in a diff sector
    move type warp
    circuit both ways
    create

when i look at the route, underneath the "src type" it says 'cargo'
underneath the "dest type" it says 'none'

these two planets make different things (one is ore, one is goods)

what am i doing wrong? (im on the wrong screen or something arent I?)

If you want to trade goods from your planet you select whatever planet as your starting point and the next point most be a port for the item you wish to sell, ore, organics etc. Set it up as two way.

You should have noticed ports on your travels around the galaxy, sectors that have goods or ore to sell. You can't sell between planets but you can dump stuff.

    You missed one GH ;)
    5. Oh and whats the story with making more than one planet in the sector? Does it do anything apart from saying "look im here!" ?
It does significantly more than that. Putting up several planets in a sector have significant advantages and disadvantages. Firstly, managing large groups of planets is much easier if they're in the same sector location. For instance, it makes sector defence more economical, since the same amount of fighters can guard more planet(s). It also makes it much easier to keep track of your empire, since you can say that your sector locations are x y z instead of a b c d e f etc.

However, putting several planets in one sector is tactically dangerous. If the sector is found by a militarily superior agressor, and/or the planets are not well defended, you can suffer a large loss to your empire in a short space of time, which is primarily why I don't recommend it until you are sure you can defend them.

To figure out how to use trade routes use the thread intitled "Manual" I listed how to use them in there.
