Quick-fire guide to setting up a 5-min FTp server?

    I need to get a 1-user FTP server running to copy some files between a iBook running OSX and Linux.
    I've tryied telnet and win2k but it seems to need NTLP authenicaton.

    Most if not allllinux distros come with some form of an ftpd. In most of them there is a file called /etc/inetd.conf. uncomment one of the lines where there is an ftpd at the end of it.

    e.g

    #ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd wu.ftpd -l -i -a
    #ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/proftpd proftpd

    then issue the command killall -1 inetd - this retarts the inetd daemon and starts an ftp server. You will have to see which ftp server is on your machine. locate ftpd - should tell you.
