Is there anyone aware of any plans for any Irish television stations to be broadcast in the UK?
Although I am able to pick the channels up by tuning my Sky box in on the Astra satalite, Sky block the channels to prevent anyone viewing the programs.

many of the programmes are own by british tv stations and thus RTE, TV3 and TG4 don't broadcast to britain, they do broadcast to Northern Ireland as far as I know.

I don't think any have plans to set up something to replace TARA TV, as of yet.

The only way of picking up the Irish channels on Sky Digi in the UK is to have an Irish box with an Irish sub, given RTE's lack of an FTV card option here.

FAIK none of the Irish channels are available even in Northern Ireland, as with the rest of the UK.

Is TG4 not on Sky up in the north?

Hopefully Sky will have to put the Four Channel up on the Service to the North since most cable channel in the Republic have advertising aimed at an Irish Audience with out paying a penny to the Irish Government, Something that needs changing.

Unfortunately TG4 is currently unavailable in NI. on Sky digi
Negotiations are on-ging regarding having it on Sky digi there along with the other RTÉ channels.
Unfortunately as is often the case in this area-information on the frequency/progress of these discussions is patchy to say the least.

Many thanks for the info everyone. I currently live in England and wanted to view the irish programs from there. Never mind, I will just have to wait and hopefully Sky will decide to allow these channels to be shown. Thanks again.

Agreed - the bonus for UK viewers is the increase in viewing choice. They can forego the usual 101-105 and watch them via terrestrial, and benefit from RTE and the Irish Independents. I think the oly real loss is BBC News 24 and BBC Choice CBeebies etc....

Actually UK viewers wouldn't lose BBC news 24 at all or the others if you get the New BBC digital set top box for terrestrial tv.

Also depending on where you are in England, you could (for the crack:eek: :D:p ) put up a giant VHF aerial and receive RTÉ one and network two from Kippure-it's possible in parts , if your tv has a vhf tuner.

I have just noticed that on Freesat Irish-TV has replaced Showcase on the EPG - Channel 400
Although it has been relayed on this channel for sometime, and has a lot of teleshopping early on but many local-tv produced shows
You would wonder why RTE never did the same??
