I've sent the URL for the survey to loads of people and have been asked questions already.

One went to the survey page, and it didn't say "SURVEY" at the top of the page...

    Another problem was "household income"
The highest is 60,000 with no ">" next to it, so he said "no answer." Might want to fix that.

Things seem obvious to me, but... everyone isn't an online survey geek :p

    By the way, well done.

    In the question

2.2 Do you have access to the Internet at home?
2.3 If not, please indicate why not ? *

    Can you add the option
-> Because Eircom won't install a bloody phoneline in my house

Minus the swearing of course :)

Never mind having ADSL or ISDN, I can't even get 56k...

Question 4.4 doesn't really make sense:

The answers don't answer the question and the question doesn't state that it means ( presumably ) the lowering of costs.

    Zab.

The answers don't answer the question and the question doesn't state that it means ( presumably ) the lowering of costs.

The question is designed not to infer anything, perhaps the cost of internet access encourages you to make purchaes or access government E*Services, how do we know ?

We could not phrase the question thus,

4.4 Does the cost of internet access discourage you from making purchases online or accessing government E*Service :- YES/NO.

We would be said to be leading the surveyee towards an answer, the questions need to be as neutral as possible.

I know the question isn't clear enough, but I can't think of a better way to phrase it, help anyone.

Because Eircom won't install a bloody phoneline in my house

i would like to but its too late no to change anything major like that. soz .... :D

Your missing my point. Read This

Q: How does the cost of Internet Access affect your purchasing goods and services online, or accessing Government E*Services?
    A: I would be encouraged

That doesn't make any sense. Encouraged by what? Lower costs? Higher costs?
A: I would be encouraged by lower costs
would make more sense, or rephrasing the question.

Also, the word "would" doensn't really apply because the question as it stands does not propose any change.

    Zab

edit: Even "Current costs encourage me" would be a better answer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,539 ✭✭✭MDR

    Zab,

so you are saying the answers should read something like

    A: No Response
B: The costs involved encourage me
C: The costs involved discourage me
    D: Neither

I'm just wondering what list is IOFFL using for the email addresses.

As far as I can see, subsriptions are simply being logged in the database at the moment, and people will be subbed afterwards. Our membership database is in disarray at the moment, because of the numerous methods we used for subscription in the past, and also because Justin is away at the moment, and he holds the keys to the primary announce list. There's no need to worry about double-subs or anything though, we'll be reorganising the whole thing after the survey.

hmm, why is the survey so flatrate-centric? I know im a broadband advocate, but it could be infered from the survey that there is freely available broadband. Even a question with 'how much would you be willing to pay for always on broadband?' (with a definition) would redress the imbalance.

That question was added this morning, however people have completed the survey already CANNOT take the survey again. The upshot of this we will have to use a smaller pool (still quite a large pool) to generate the statistics for this question.

    Filled in and forwarded.

(Down is listed too but nowhere else in the occupied north-east)

    Needs chaingin, massa.

    Greetings
I passed on the survey to all people in Ireland in my address book and have been asked some questions which I can't answer.
How does someone who completes the survey find out the results? and when can they look for them? I can not give the a URL as the results page doesn't yet exist or will be updated then have a different URL ??

Another person to whom I sent the survey request replied that after filling it they couldn't send it , they sent me the result they received.

    <End Quote>
I note that other people have had this problem but I couldn't see a solution.
Please could you be kind enough to help me answer these questions, Thanks

The results of the survey will be available next week. Some peliminary trends are already available to committee members, but i am reluctant to put anything on the boards yet, in case I get it all wrong.
I note that other people have had this problem but I couldn't see a solution.

This particular problem is beyond my webby skills ...
I'll try and sort it out over lunch today.

We will have preliminary results at the AGM, and available on the site after that. However the survey has not closed, we have an opportunity for more publicity coming up shortly, and it is still doing the rounds. Why only the other day someone sent it on to me from France!

The survey are now available here.. These results include responses up to the 11th of July 2002.
