The Chili's + New Order*****.

    I love flea!
Chili's played like magic last night and I loved Flea's wee outbursts and red-glow shoes....I'll marry him...!but I felt embarrassed and kind of disgusted at the crowds treatment of New Order.

There was loud booing after about 4 songs and loads of little sh*ts holding up their fingers unashamedly at the lead singer and in turn, he wasn't too impressed.........They're so fckn good! Even in the pit, where I was :Joy Division tune- 'love will tear us apart' didn't shake up the kids!
I was more than a little pissed off. This band have been around a good 25years and been through their fair share of **** and they don't deserve ignorant, impatient and completely rude reactions :like they got,
my friend and I screamed our heads off trying to support them and danced around enjoying their amazing songs but **** it ,t'was useless.A lot of these people have no problem dancing round to the Kylie song which is mixed with 'Blue Monday'
Some saps outside were slagging them off in German accents....this amounts to the abismal i.q. of the bulk of fans at the gig.

Understandably, most people couldn't wait for the chili's to come on....but it was so disgusting what went on, and I love the chili's a lot! Closing with 'Power of equality' was genius, they rock! and the weather was gorgeous, shame a lot of stupid people couldn't shut-up if they were not enjoying the support band.

    Flea and Johnny worked some beautiful New Order riffs into the intro's of a few songs which sounded brilliant.....they gave it socks .Great gig,shame about the booing crap+also got my bag swiped:( {small blue leather containing bluephone+brownpurse....???}

signing off: chili's devoteé +new order ,you rule too.
Maybe things were different outside the pit ,I wonder was it the same on the pitch??
    too early.....zzz

Wayhay, finally got the cable working!I'm back on the net!

Yeh the chillies were savage if even a little short. The Moshing in the regular crowd was out of control. A bit dangerous at times but all in all a brilliant gig.

I think the reason the people got fed up with New Order was because they had already been through the walls and Red Lemon. IMO 3 warm ups are too much for a non festival event. People had been stading there since 5 and the chillies didn't come on until around 9:15. Thats 4 hours of bands and waiting around that people didn't pay their money for. They were not just booing New Order, they would have booed just about anyone who was in their place.

Was I the only one who wasnt that impressed? I saw New Order, who werent bad. And then Chilis came out at about 9:15 I think? finished at 10:30. Not good value for 60 euros. What happend to the days of the big bands playing 1.5 -2 hour sets? (not to mention Metallica's 2.5 hrs monster sets )

Missed a few big tunes from them also. Road trippin' ,Higher Ground, Blood Sugar ... and a few more. Big crowd at it and a nice day though. They werent ba, just not amazing

Still Dead Kennedys kicked their asses and hopefully Xtreme will also.

(I guess I dont just like big outdoor events.)

I agree totally that the majority of the crowd were absouletly dicks. Theyd obviously been lifted straight from the phoenix park from the week previous and dumped in lansdown. Drunk 15yrs olds running around with irish flags, singing "olé". Im surprised they didnt start chanting "keano".

It was pretty obvious that the music was only a secondary concern to the vast majority and all they really wanted was an excuse to booze and to attempt to crowd surf.

As such reaction to New Order started off with most of the kids just wanting to mosh around and jump up and down to anything but after a few songs they obviously got bored when they realised that it wasnt really moshing material (well duh) and started complaining. No one seemed interested in them. Id seen new order before and they were amazing but the reaction of the crowd in lansdowne was pathetic and ruined their show for me.

I would have given ANY amount of money to see new order play "singing for england" or whatever their world cup song was called in lansdown (they played it last time i saw them in the uk). THAT would have been classic and a slap in the face of the ungrateful crowd.

Chillis were good enough playing a relatively californication heavy set which I gather is what the majority would have been interested in hearing. They were on for a short time but I guess they didnt want to end up playing the entire californication album and anything that wasnt off it or a single wasnt getting much reception. I wonder how many people would have actually known under the bridge if All saints hadnt covered it.

One other thing. The beer situation is getting Ridiculous. 5 euro for a pseudo pint is pathetic!!! That sort of pricing is what encourages binge drinking before the concert and leaves the rest of us to deal with drunking puking people inside the grounds. This fact needs some media attention now!

    Dear god im getting old.

a few lads from where i work were at it and they said the booing was not at the band but actually at the security who were "escorting" a guy away who had climbed up on the speaker scaffolding in the middle of the park while New Order were playing.

I saw the person climbing the scaffolding but it was during the chillis set. I suppose it could have happened twice.

in all fairness though New Order did play for too long , the crowd were also pissed of because they ran out of paper cups , i didnt bother buying a pint in there i brought my own nagen in a bag - no bother , i was never checked.

The walls for deadly i though they chilled people out and they had this unique spacy sound , they were good at slane last year too.Who the hell were the red lemons , didnt know what to make of them , the crowd werent too interested though

one last thing - did you see your man from New Order dancing around the stage.....such an eruption of mocking laughter ive never before heard

    anyone from Birr reading this

In fairness, while the booing and gestures where out of order, New Order never should have been playing considering the headlining act and the venue. I mean, its not much more than 80s electric pop, is it?

Too right. Considering the gig they were playing New Order should have played a lot more heavy songs and a lot less of that electronica ****e.

I only came in in the middle of New Order.
Were the Walls playing? Wouldn't have minded seeing them live.
Those little skummers with the Ireland T-shirts should've been dragged out. Muppets one and all.
I hoisted 2 or 3 girls up on my shoulders (after feeling a bit sorry for them not being able to see) only to get a load of abuse off the little fúckers.
Those pints were watered down by-product of the porta-loos™.
    Total and utter pish.

Then again, twas my first concert so I'm well pleased and don't have (much) of a base of reference to compare it wit.
€139 for a camping ticket for witness - fúck off.....

were they even the original support or were they thrown in at the last minute? they totally didnt suit the fans.

as for that fat wankor of a bassist, he was thrusting in the direction of the guys who were giving him abuse and he rightly deserved it. they should have realised no-one wanted there dance shiote after the first 1 was boo-ed, they just annoyed me and many around me really.

again like ozzfest this wristband crap is goin on, its becomin very regular. how will they pull that off at witness? diferent colour wristbands for diferent stages on two different days? it boggles the mind...... i got wristband last nite but i felt sorry for those without, i remember what it was like at ozzfest!

That reminds me, the stewards where right ****ing pricks.

Me and a mate of mine both got wristbands, but my girlfriend didn't. When I asked the steward if he'd let her in with us, he said no. Which was fine - except he then waved a whole bunch of girls that had no wristbands at all into the pit. *Then* he wouldn't let my mate give my girlfriend his band and to top it all off, he took my bottle of 7-Up off me!

(We still managed to get nearly 20 people into the pit using only 4 bands, natch!)

the chilies american leg of their tour last year had 20 gigs with Foo Fighters and Muse supporting them!!! that would have been sweet!!!

All in all it was a good gig!! Chilies made up for the dismal performance of Red Who?? and the Walls(we kept chanting "Brewing up a storm" - The Walls formally known as the Stunnin) and the ok performance of New Order!!

I would have liked to see chilies play that concert in slane!!! there was more room in slane!! and less 15 year old drunks!!! i counted bout 20 young lads with cans of beer on the pitch!!!

Still cant wait to see chilies again!!!!

I'd say Red Lemon were the best of the 3 warm ups.
