Next summer when i finish school, myself and 4 of my mates want to go to the U.s for the summer perhaps a year if we can. Is this at all possible (as we will all be 18, will we be rejected due to the fact that we will have just finished school/have not started college?) What would we apply for, as i am to lazy to find out?

Essentially if you want to work you will have to get a J1 visa. Generally they last only four months, but you can get extensions and you can also get sponsorship to work even longer than a year. You can still claim that you are a student but you dont necessarily have to be a student to get a J1 visa. So you will be fine. If you are nto bothered about getting a visa you have to leave the u.s. after three months - holiday visa, but you can go straight back again. Being 18 you are not really gonna get any jobs, as you are not allowed to work in any bars and you're most likely not gonna get any IT work - so with this in mind what were you planning on doing for the year - travelling around???
