"other" presumably... so no votes (yet) for it.

I voted for Italia '90 - like a lot of people here, I grew up with that tournament - I was 13 at the time - and the memories of the moments with Bonner, Schillachi, Timofté, O'Leary and more will live on forever.

Italia '90, I was too young to remember, all I do remember is a bunch of lads screaming at me when I ran across the big screen in the pub one night... and my whole block going mad a few nights before...

This year was the first year I properly watched it, and was ****ing class in my opinion.

imust say italia 90 was an amzing experience as an irish supporter but this world cup has been the world cup of the underdog and i've loved it.

and tizlox are those figures in your signature true?
    some difference eh?

    Hmmm,

I have to say 98 due to the fact that the quality of football, tight passing, spectacular goals was amazing(Although the Final was Dissapointing a goal or two from Brazil would have made it a good game), italy 90 will always stay in my mind but only because of "Jacks Army" not for the Football played....

Ive had very mixed feelings about this World Cup, what would really annoy me would be to see a team like Germany win it, they simply don't deserve it for their robotic(ill admit effective)style of play, its not how the game is intended to be played in the eyes of the world, German efficiency eh FOOTBALL IS NOT A CAR!! :).

Personally i feel that it is a real shame to see so many of the big names leave the tournament at an early stage as perhaps their perfermance could have improved, who knows..

I mean remember Italy V France in 98, what a game it was......

I think the only way we could see another game of that quality in this World Cup would be if we were to see Korea Play Brazil in the Final, which i think is unlikely.

Brazil v Germany Final (Hopefully Brazil will rip through their defence and teach them a valuable lesson)

2002 having had so many of the top teams knocked out early, combined with the awful refereeing past the 2nd round (Korea making it to the semis is a disgrace), prevents it from being a truly great world cup.

    Best world cup: 1970

Best World Cup that i was alive for: 1982/1998

    Most Enjoyable World Cup: 1990

    Worst World Cup: 1990/1994

1970 was a truly amazing tournament. Its hard to talk about it without talking about the brazilians, good god what a team. Jairzhino scored in every round (with a few multiple goals) and STILL didnt even up as top scorer. The england team were pretty good and gave us that classic 3-2 game against w germany.

Espania 82 was incredible, Again brasil impressed (best side since 1970 and since) but teams like Italy, France, Argentina and west germany were outstanding. Brasil V Italy!! France V W Germany (and THAT tackle) !! Norn Irelan too!!! ARMSTRONG!! Arabs leading pitch invasions!!!
The second group stage was a bit crap altho seeing a group of Italy, Argentina and Brasil....wow. Id say this was the best tournament ive ever seen, and i personally reckon it was better than 70, but since i wasnt alive, ill take the advice of people who were:) If youve never seen much of this tournament, go out and buy a good video of it, you really wont regret it.

France 98 for nearly all the reasons that Samba gave (plus Bergcamps goal :) ). Samba, France V Italy?? ****e match, correct result. Another example of the Italians negative football not working, jesus why wont they learn.

Ive never been as drunk for such a long period of time as the world cup in 1990. Never seen the country go so mad either. All the emotions and experiences are better described by better authors elsewhere:)

Diana Ross missing a penalty in the opening ceremony of the 1994 world cup set the scene for the first final to be settled by penalties, some truly awful football (Ireland V Norway) and pathetic shots of americans trying to understand the game. 1990 was pretty dire too. The final was a bloody snorefest, but we were all still hungover so it didnt really matter.

Italia 90 was awful. A dreadful Argentina side got to the final to play a sleep inducing Germany team. Ireland played the worst football I have ever seen and got to the quarter finals without winning a game!

France 98 was good but the best world cup I've seen is Mexico 86. Despite the fact that I was all of 6 at the time I still remember Maradona's genius and the clips I've seen since tend to reinforce that.

    1998
Just 'cos I thought the football was excellent.
And 'cos we weren't in it (ducks to avoid projectiles):p

2002 has been the most "interesting" but no way the best,
I voted for Spain '82 as Dustaz has said there some cracking games from teams near thier peak.

    Mike.

I voted Mexico 86 which is definitely the best one i've ever seen, though the 1970 is widely regarded to be the best of all time isn't it?

Mexico 86 had Maradonna at his peak, which is about as good as it is humanly possible.
So many great teams, Denmark were fantastic, USSR too, and there were so many classic games, England v Argentina, France v Brazil, Argentina v West Germany, Demnark v Uruguay. And one of the best goals i've ever seen. Maradonna v England.
Fair enough Ireland weren't there but we had N. Ireland who got to play Brazil in the groups, and in those days Ireland/ N. Ireland didn't matter at all to me. Pity i can't follow N. Ireland with the same vigour now.

    Plus the Mexican Wave!!!!

1990 because of where i was and who i was with.TBH if heaven was a moment in time i would spend eternity watching the 1990 world cup in a bedsit on a black and white television with the person i was with.
