Its come to the end of its life and its going to be switched off.
We're leaving the ads because a startup company wants to advertise (and support) Boards.ie in July and cloud is away for the next few days so I'm not going to hack the so that he has to hack it back in in 8 days.

So, thanks for the support, it raised a few questions and a few eyebrows but it looks like we survived without any damage to our ability to criticise :)

More advertisers? Excellent, nice to be able to help to pay your way.

Glad to see RatMan going though, GF was wondering why I was doing that same mutter under my breath sitting in front of my PC that I do when I see Eircom vans.

Be nice to see this advertising trend continue and boards to start making money for its owners.

yeah, do the same myself, and when I hear the 'Hi-Speed' ad on the radio/tv. I reckon it could be stoppedon the grounds of false advertising. "Large files in seconds" my arse..... :(

How can we take the money if you dont look at the ad?

If everyone took that approach we could pack up and go home. :(

It has been stopped. Complaints were made to the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland and the complaint was upheld. The Hi-Speed ads no longer feature the words 'Large Files in Seconds'.

    How did you miss it???

That stupid eircom mouse flying across the banner add.

Maybe someone should make an interactive version where you can shoot him ;)

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

it only showed once every 10 pages, so its possible you never saw it...

I for one do not mind looking at adds on free web pages
it's hard enuf for them too cover the cost of running some thing like boards.ie or any other free web page with out people trying to kill the last chance of them surviving with out becoming a pay web site (not saying that boards would do that) but it makes life a lot harder if advertisers know that people will not see the adds they will not pay for them.

I would never mind boards haveing 1-2 adds per page if it helps boards.ie.
