    another stupid question:
    is this drive bootable?

    yet another stupid question:
is this drive ide, scsi, usb, zip, super floppy ......?

This question is impossible to answer without this information.

Ensure that it is pointed to by the BIOS and that it is the primary master if the drive is IDE.

The stupidest question of them all:
Do you have a non-bootable disk in your floppy drive?

Yes the drive is set up to be used in the boot sequence.

Its an ide hard drive. Its set up as Master on the primary cable. And no there is no bootable disk in the floppy drive.

Listen to the Man, he is dead right. Its simple the boot sectors of the disk are invalid. I would also run the boofcfg thing too

[danny posed the above topic for me as I wasnt of pc access at the time :) ]

Anyway ive reformatted that drive and created a nice big partition set it as active, reinstalled windows2k it booted fine the first time, I shut ti down went to boot into it and it still has the invalid system disk hassle. Its weird as everything should be fine on it i.e. no alterations to the install, and all is set up right.
