win 98 instalation prob

    trying to install it new onto a computer . about 20 secs into the instlation a lil black box comes up into the screen and the instalation stops anyone know any reasons for this ?

    cd rom is working
    ram is fine
    hhd fine

    no sound cards or anything else present in computer

    just got it to give me a error

    standard mode invalid dpmi return from 037f:5f92

    and now that stupid black box came up then the computer restarted grrrr

    could it be that the cd/ source ur installing from is damaged/corrupt?

    you tried other cd or whatever?

    searched a bit.

    Likely causes are:
    Dodgy BIOS
    ainti-virus not disabled (if applicable)
    try reducing memory amount and retry
    faulty L2 cache.

    The most popular reason tho was RAM.
    You said it was ok tho.

    just got it fixed turned out to be a the bios's anti virus program was stopping it from going on

    there is probably anti virus protection in the BIOS, all that means is that it will not allow the bootsector of the hdd to be written to.

    disable it in the cmos setup.
