I suffer from really bad bad breath. I brush my teeth (including tongue) twice a day, uses a mouth-wash, none of my teeth are rotten or not repaired by the dentist. Hours after I've brushed my teeth my breath would start to stink. When I speak I also tend to exhale a lot more than normal people so my breath will become noticable by whoever I am talking to. I try to mask it by chewing gum and I do that a lot but it doesn't really help. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?

You might have gingivitus(sp?). I think if you go to the dentist or docter or somebody they can give you something for it.

some people have the misfortune of having chronic bad breath.... there is one of my customers that I visit quite regularly and man does he have a problem..... most women I know (3 in total) have occasional bad breath, it makes me wonder if this is some kind of hormonal imballance (no offence ladies).

as for your condition, try searching the web for the term "hallitosis" . it's the medical name for the prob.

'spose you could keep a small bottle of vanilla essence in your pocket, and have the occasional swig!

you may wash your teeth twice a day but for how long, and perhaps you're not doing it effectively?

Go and see your dentist. If he finds nothing wrong with your gums/general mouth area, then go see your doctor. Chronic bad breath can be caused by numerous things, like digestion problems, lung/stomach/throat infections and millions of other things. But rest assured, this can be solved, but only if you go see a specialist. Seriously.

I too suffer as you do and have done since i was a child. My dental hygeine is fine. It even got to the stage that i was so worried about the problem that i would hold my breath while kissing my girlfriend !!!

Do you suffer from heart burn alot ? I do and this was the cause, i have excess acid in my stomach and as a result there is a certain type of bactiria in your stomach that cuases the bad smell. The bactiria gets worse the more greasy/fried food you eat. I went to the doctor and he prescribed a pill (sorry cant rememeber name) and that kills the bacteria and solves the acid problem... now the hard part , to keep your breath ok you need to change your diet , eat less fries ships burgers etc , eat more veg , not all fruits though ! Because if like me it is an acid problem too much citric fruits ie: orange will worsen the problem.

I havent had bad breath in months now but it is hard to cut back on the ol' fries and chips every day. You can still eat them but not in excess.
Also you will need someone else to tell you if your breath is bad as you will not be able to smell it yourself , parents i find are the best to ask. Its not as embarrassing and they will be honest.

    Hope that helped !

100% with Seamus there. It can range from disease in the lungs to bowel problems. If you suffer from chronic constipation apparently some waste fluids are secreted through your skin and water droplets in the air you exhale. Bad breath if not meaning problems with your teeth (do you floss?) means a problem with your body.

But as everyone else says, drink plenty of fluids, change your diet, eat garlic (although your breath will be stinky in a different way!), eat lots of fibre to flush out your bowels, go on a diet?

Basically though, go see a professional matey, don't be embarrassed - it's a normal thing. (just be thankful you know about it as many people suffering from halitosis can't smell their own breath)

Gaviscon mouthwash - it'll burn the bejaysus out of your mouth, but it kills gingivitis and pretty much anything in there that shouldn't be... it like Domestos for the gob!

Do you suffer from anything like acid reflux?

Can be caused by a bad diet or an infection. Either go to your dentist or doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Drink more water if you can a half pint every hour, try brushing 3 times a day instead of 2 and buy some of the medical chewing gum especially for this problem.

Try Corsodol: It gets rid of that Gingivitis stuff, pretty good for mouth ulcers too

There's a range of paste and mouthwash especially for bad breath, Retarded its called or something like that and im not taking the piss. Tis expensive though. Apart from that, yep basically more veg especially onion and garlic, stupid as that sounds. Basically more onion or garlic should sort out the halitosis thats getting there by itself, then gum and/or mouthwash should sort the halitosis caused by the onion n garlic :) If anyone wants to complicate things further feel free :)

:/ remember that name now... tis Retardent
