Planetary percentages

In the FAQ it is reccommended that the percentages allocated for various productions do not sum 100%. If this is the case, what happens to the unused percentages. I've taken over a few planets and have seen a lot of unused percentage values (sic).

So what is the optimal value for a reasonably sized planet to keep it well defended with a pop of around 5mil?

I'm starting to get into this one, but I think I'm making a couple of enemies, due to my own belligerence :o)

Oh, and how the hell do I defend myself against 3mil plus fighters on a planet?? It seems that it's really hard to get to those really well defended sectors, are there any particular stratagies that are effective?

Leftovers of planet production = +credits
Probably best to set your Ore and Goods to 0%, energy to about 15% depending on how much sector def or energy stockpiles you have... organics should be alright at 15%... then set fighters/mines to however fast you want either to be produced.
The less of everything else you produce - the more cash your planets will make... then you can use the "bulk credit transfer from other planets" tool to rake in all the cash your planets have built up.
So what is the optimal value for a reasonably sized planet to keep it well defended with a pop of around 5mil?
If you're starting off with a planet of 5mill, I'd reccomend building up some good reserves of energy and organics... leave each at 20% until you've got a few hundred thousand in reserve, then reduce production to around 14%.
Ore and Goods are pretty useless unless your planet is "selling"... so it's ok to leave them at zero once you've built a base on the planet.
Sector defense will require energy from your planets in that sector, which is why you can't really stop production of it, and a good stockpile is needed to power defenses if you get attacked. (afaik)
Organics are needed to feed your population... you run out - they'll die off pretty quickly.

It's all a question of how much money you want the planet to make per tick... or if you want to beef up planet security etc.
You'll be pretty safe with Organics 15% - Energy 15% though... once you've got those two sorted, there's not a lot you can do wrong.

You betcha. The beautiful planet of Spudonia is one you won't be keeping for much longer ;)

BTW.....how big a price need I put on the head of swiss before I'd see some results? :)

And Spudonia is once again part of the mighty Potato Empire ( :D ), and although the attack(s) may (allegedly) have cost me a ship worth over 5 billion credits, I feel that justice has been served.

Yeah right. How much do you want for the job Ruaidhri?

Damn, I just noticed after your post that Spudonia is no longer mine. I'm not that concerned, however, I've found a few other planets to occupy me. :D Nothing like good intelligence to fund a warmonger like me.

Ahem, I did get slapped around a bit however, by making an attack on one of strat's planets. I thought I had enough with everything at level 20/21 or so to make a successful attack (and full energy) on the planet, but 400k Torps and 275 Fighters got the jump on me, I'm afraid :(.

Fortunately I had some money to spare and I'm rising from the ashes once again, to the dismay of a few people, who are going to get a shock when they next log in.

Spudonia will be free once again (under my totalitarian control).
    Vive la resistance!
