probally to make the product more china friendly.
China is a country with an expanding consumer base and they probally want to make sure they stay on the right side of the authorities.

China regards Tiawan as a rogue province not a country.

just guessing but seems most likely

The guiding question should be "does Taiwan have a separate football association?" not "what will make us the most money?". Apparently there are 15 more national associations in FIFA than there are countries in the UN (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Denmark & Faroes instead of the UK and Denmark, etc.).

http://www.football.org.tw/ - that certainly is their website.

after scouring the net and blogs for a better explentation. from an EA employee: "It's not removed just re-named to the more 'PC' Chinese Taipei. If not, China may get upset. "
