Road Rage Attack

On the way to work my partner and my young son were accosted by a man banging on the side window saying that she was a bad driver!!
Prior to that she had overtaken a large 98D Mercedes along a back road and continued along for about ten miles, when the car caught up with her at a junction. He then jumped out of his motor banging on the driver side window ranting and swearing at a young woman and a six year old boy!! This person only ceased his actions when he realised that my partner was reading his registration plate and tapping it into her phone!!
In my view this was an act of pure cowardice as he knew there was only a woman in this car and could get away with this sort of thing.
Has anyone else had any instances like this and also what are peoples views on this sort of action. I will add that my missus is a good and confident driver.

There is a word for people like that "asshole". I know myself from my experiance of driving that being taken over by a smaller car is somewhat of an insult, but you don't go crazy like that. Thats maddness that is.

Seeing as she has his reg now, down to the Garda Station and give a little statement. He mightn't be formally charged, but every little helps. I find in general (esp since moving from car to bike) that men and women driving big vehicles, BMWs, Mercs, Jeeps, tend to be far less accommodating and far more aggressive. High winds today, so I was cruising along, 3 big cars overtook me out of a roundabout - didn't even give me time to begin accelerating. Taxes should be phenomenal on big cars. If it's not a truck or bus, they should have to pay environmental levies for all those extra pointless cc's they paid for. Maybe I'm biased ;)

I'm usually the guy banging on the window (someone reversed on me on Saturday). However I don't stlk them for ten miles. I don't know about your partner, but there are a lot of stupid drivers out there who deserve this and worse.

This all seems to be about driving specifically. Is there a bigger issue here? Cos if there isn't, this thread is more suited to Motors.

There is, people are more willing to engage in abusive and irresponsible behavior in general.

It never ceases to amaze me how many of these assholes there are on the road. I think it is becoming (has become ?) a serious problem. Amagine how the 6 year old child in the car felt ??

I live in Galway and this seems to be happening more and more. At the roundabout near Dunnes (anyone in Galway knows the one) you can see this situation happening on a daily basis. Granted there are a LOT of bad drivers on the road but these assholes who get out of the car and start shouting at the driver ??

It has happened on 1 or 2 occasions to me where someone will cut you off on a roundabout - you blow the horn - and they start shouting and roaring in the car or pull over/try to block you off. F*ucking assholes.

    I think you are :)

I disagree with that, MPG is primarily down to the driver, "big" (by our weird standards) enginges aren't necessarily less economical. Larger cars tend to be a lot safer too.

Back to the main topic, what that guy did was stupid, I mean, what is it supposed to achieve? It's happened to me a couple of times, people getting out and giving me **** because they have no patience, etc. I just wind them up more, they're welcome to attack me. I'll defend myself with appropriate violence, then have them charged with assault.:)

I was attacked in a road rage incident last friday night...
I had crossed the road when the green man was flashing at the top of parliment street. A taxi decided it was flashing so he could go even though I was on the road. He was flying toward me and i just jumped out of the way and got clipped. I through my hands in the air in anger and disgust, pointing at the green man and then making eye contact toward his plate number...

He then starts to shot prefanitys at me and on cintinue on my way knowing how taxi drivers act in confrontations(a well placed generalisation).
He gets out of his car and comes over the other side of the road(leaving his merc open and at the top of a line of traffic at the lights). He decides to ruff me up a bit. ANd I return by stating his plate number and treating legal action... Things were getting out of hand and I was getting a bit scared at the drivers agression. My friend then steps in and says to the crazied cabbie that someone is messing with his merc... He turns and I knock a clean blow on his jaw. He stubbles back to his car and I laugh it off...

What frightned me most about it all was the fact that the guy almost killed me... Then when he didn't he got out and started punching me about... The guy couldn't have been on crack from the way he was acting... I won't be making a complaint offically as I did return a punch and that would complicate the matter in legal circles + I don't have the time. But I won't be getting into any Silver Mercs for a while ;)

Not quite. Surely what you mean is they kill the other guy, not you.
