    England 1 Argentina 0

So Beckham has got his revenge.

Not a bad performance overall by England, Danny Mills was a revelation (??) but the Argies totally underperformed.
Veron was useless, he is definitely looking for that ticket back to Italy I reckon.

They should have held off on the jubilee celebrations until this weekend.

Any suggestions for the Suns headline tomorrow?

(I suppose 'Gotcha - Again' would be a bit tasteless?)

    Fùck the Sun, the rag.

I thought England fully deserved their victory. Although they are our closest rivals and I prefer to see them lose, Argentina simply did not deserve it. No fight, no bottle, not enough will to win. Veròn, as I have been saying for a while, is horifically over-rated, but I don't see why he would be keen to go back to Lazio, as coloured players aren't kosher with the fans there.

I reckon it was a dive , after they got the goal and especially in the second half it was practically an eleven man defense for England.

    Still twas fun to watch.

One nil up against a class team, I think its 11 men defences no matter who we are talking about.
If we are 2-0 up against Saudi Arabia at half time, there will not be flowing attacks, the bicycle clips will be on! :D

    A dive?
Did ya not watch the slow-mo reoplay at half time from different angles?
I would agree he was looking for it. I would agree contact was not terrible, but you can clearly see the chap left his leg in, and made some contact with Owen, and wasnt going for the ball. And the dope did it in the penalty box!
    Thus it was a penalty.

Sounds to me like you have your ABE goggles on (Anyone But England). Not unusal TBH, plenty of anglophiles out there.

England played very well and thoroughly deserved the win. Indeed with Owen hitting the post and Cavallero saving Sheringham's superb volley, it could well have been 3-0.

Argentina were hopeless. The final ball in was abysmal, and they basically only had one real chance in the entire game (Batistuta's header).

I'm in England at the moment, Oh god I fear tonight. England probably deserved it, but I dread listening to them go on and on about it.

Must admit that I think England definitaly deserved the result to be honest.

i thought the match was boring. i wasn't pleased with the BBC picture quality either so i had to endure George Hamilton for 90 minutes to make it worse. one good thing from the game was, Jim Beglin wasn't there because he was working for ITV this morning :)

What's with the argies and all that hair? I understood that the collapse of Argentina's economy was serious but did it make all the barbers redundant? Surely the team could barter a few rats in return for a haircut from somebody. Anybody.

i was listening on five live and the commentator, uttered a great Line worthy of the great Alan "the goal keeper has cake all over his face,a ball shaped cake, eat it"Partridge after Beckam scored, and i quote
"Beckham, red card in st etienne, red shirt in Sapporo"
Cleverly linking the colour of beckhams shirt on the night he scored a penelty against argentina with the colour of the card he received four years ago when he was sent off.

    Class.
