Hi folks just looking for some advice from the mac community :)

Having followed faithfully the Dark Side for many years (Windoze) I have finally come to the realization that I spend more time fixing, tweaking, upgrading, rebooting etc.. etc.. the damn thing than I actually productively *use* it :(

Seeing OS X in operation has nearly got me converted and I'm looking round for an old Imac (budget about Eur5-600) to play around with esp Imovie and ITunes.

Thing is I've only seen it running on the Imac2 which is a bit beyond my budget at the moment.

Is OS x ok running on the older Imacs.. say G3-350s??

Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated! Cheers.

I'd say so but you will need more RAM prolly. I'd give it 256 megs of RAM to be nice esp with iMovie.

Check the OSX specs here somewhere maybe.

But you'll need to buy OS X though won't you??

True.. I've just been checking buyandsell.net for options but a lot of people seem to expect very unreasonable prices for out-of-date hardware (without OS X too) and then you have to look at slapping in more ram etc..

Just been on Apples website and am pleasantly surprised to see the Emac generally available now http://www.apple.com/uk/emac/specs.html . Throw in some more memory again and I reckon it should be ideal for what I'm planning.. :) Just as capable as the Imac2 but nowhere near as expensive.

In my old job we got it running on an Imac but you need a good bit of ram.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my Imac actually, if you're thinking of buying one 2nd hand.

I have an iMac 500mhz and it works fine with 256megs Ram. I'd say 128 Ram is probably OK too but not if using iMovie plus more at the same time...

How much iMac Yellum? (Don't worry Bluehair, you have first dibs :))

No idea really but pm me, I don't want this thread to turn into a for sale thread. I'm not gonna put it in the for sale forum either.

I just want to make my Imac happy. Its all sad gathering dust here. I also offered it to phaxx but he has yet to get back to me.

Its a 300Mhz with 96mb of ram I think. Tangerine in colour.

Whats everyones thoughts on the Emac though? Seems to be a massive saving for just losing out on the LCD...

I run OS X on my 1st edition imac fine, with 128MB extra RAM.It's fine, but does have some kinks regarding switching to classic, but I assume that's mostly software related

    Hi,

I am running Mac OS X on a Graphite iMac that I recently gave to my mother, 128mb ram. So far no problems.
