You'll have to buy 'Dave' or a program like it, unless you have NT server or 2000 server on the laptop, which is unlikely.

'Dave' will let you share files between workstations and macintosh's

if ya have win 2k on the laptop your can add the appletalk protocal and you can share drive space between laptop and imac

... do u know the name of the company that makes DAVE?

Connectix DoubleTalk seems to work pretty well. It lets Macs access PC shared volumes very easily. However PCs can't access Mac volumes.

As for "adding the Appletalk protocol" to win2k, you need to be running Win2k Server to do this. AFAIK Win2k Pro can't network with Macs without third-party software.

.sit is an archive, like .zip but far more flexible and with more features. Mac Applications have no file extension such as .exe

    :o
oops, sorry, I thought you wrote .zip my mind was a bit messy when I wrote that.
    sorry!

What about trying to FTP or SCP it accross?
I've been spending all evening trying to get MacOSX to connect to my PC (while running Win2k Pro and Mandrake 8.2), but so far unsuccessfully.
I started a telnet server, but it woulnd't let the mac connect because it wasn't using NTLA authentication.

you can make your 2k server accept standard telnet connections (ie without ntla auth). Its piss easy, but i cant remember how. There was some commandline configuration tool or something, do a search on the MS website if you're still interested.

I resorted t using good old FTP in the end.

Any reason why I can;'t play .movs made with iMovie on my Win2k machine with Quicktime 5?

I've exported the clips several times using different format.
    No hope :(

    Shouldn't be a problem.

You are using quicktime 5 on both machines? (not quicktime pro?)
You are opening PC .mov with quicktime.. as opposed to some crappy pc proggy?

Can you run through the exact happenstance (big word eh) of procedural precicities so we can get a better idea of what the fleck is going on?

*ando* I think he meant you - not me, seeing as I didn't help but confused the situation more! ;)

I'm going to download the newest quicktime I can and reinstall it.
Doens't seem to even want to launch now.

And yeah, it's .mov, ftp'd straight from the iBook after exporting it from iMovie2 (or whatever came with MacOSX)
I'll see about getting exact build numbers....

Just says something like it can't open it or something or missing filters or somesuch.
They weren't complicated flics, jsut staright exports of a clip from a DV cam.

I exported the same clip in 3 different quality settings. None worked
