In the highest scoring World Cup game in twenty years, Germany just finished off an amazing 8-0 crushing of Saudi Arabia.

    Yes, thats right ... EIGHT-NIL.

Talk about a formidable foe... !

So... how do ye rate our chances on Wednesday now???

    --

    Scorers were:

    Klose (20, 25, 70) (hattrick)
    Ballack (40)
    Jancker (45)
    Linke (72)
    Bierhoff (85)
    Schneider (injury time)

I would'nt get too excited, Bard!

It'll be quite diff against Ireland, but what is a worry is that
Ireland will need to rack up a similair score again Saudi
otherwise goal-difference could see Ireland comming home.

    Mike.

p.s. Celt, loads of goals does not make a great match!

Mike,- the Germans performance today shows that they are certainly not to be underestimated... to rack up 8 goals in a game against *any* team takes a fair degree of skill and effort... I thought that the Germans would be our toughest challenge in our group and I still believe that.

And yeah- loads of goals does not a great game make... in this particular game it just made for a case of a tiny wimpy David being crushed to death by a massive muscular Goliath.

Hopefully Germany will have got scoring goals out of their system and won't score any against us. Still thats a worrying sign of things to come but we always do better as underdogs.

Still if we get a result against germany and Cameroon don't run up a cricket score against Saudi it will leave Cameroon with a tough game against Germany.

Come on ffs how do teams like Saudi get in ???
4 goals came from unchallenged crosses and the others were free headers ,BierHoffs goal was a joke i would have subbed the keeper just to embarass him for that.
    On a good note.
Saudi will play for pride against cameroon hopefully nick a draw.
we MUST NOT lose to germany and MUST beat Saudi then we tru.
5 points we tru no probs.
4 and goal difference and hope gfermany beat Cameroon and we have to beat Saudi by more that cameroon do.

True, some of the best matches are scoreless, but I still enjoyed the match and thus, thought it was great :)

It is not unknown for the Suadi royal family to bribe other teams in the Asian qualifiers. Saudi Arabia walked all over Bahrain, but Bahrain managed to beat Iran like their lives depended on it.

Did you see the Saudis? They were the worst thing I have seen on two legs since Ann Widicombe decided to get into porn.

They left acres of space for the Germans and got muscled off the ball so easily I laughed out loud. Its almost as if they wanted to lose the game.

Lineker called them "inept" and I would have to agree. Germany will face a much tougher game on Wednesday and then we will see just how well they can play. Todays game was little more than a kick around in the park on a Sunday afternoon.

i reckon we can at least hold deutschland to a draw... the only thing that really impressed me about them was their finishing, apart from that the result was because of the saudis badness as opposed to germany's goodness... ya know?

Lads we have gotten our most difficult game out of the way today. Cameroon are the best team in our group. I only watched the 1st half because I thought the Saudis were a disgrace but I saw nothing for Ireland to fear with Germany. The 4 goals that I did see were very very soft even with Breen and Harte in our defence they wouldn't let such pathetic goals in.

I expect us to draw 0-0 or win 2-0. Germany are there for the taking, especially as they will be arrogant after that flattering win over a pathetic team.

    Gandalf.

Eh, no it wasn't! Saudi Arabia brought disgrace to the tournement with their pathetic performance. I can honestly say that any of the teams Ireland played in our qualifying group were better than Saudi Arabia today.

The only pity is that knowing Irelands luck the following results will happen.

    Ireland 1-1 Germany
    Cameroon 2-2 Germany
    Cameroon 5-0 Saudi
    Ireland 2-0 Saudi

... leaving us knocked out on goal difference.

Was it just me or did all the Saudi's look like 13 year old skinny schoolboys when standing near the Germans?

It was abysmal, the Saudis were pathetic. I hope it doesn't go down to goal difference because we never run up those kinds of scores even against crap teams. e.g. only beating Andorra 3-0 and 3-1 while Portugal hammer them 7 or 8 nil.

you just know that the saudi defence wont be able to hold these tall strong on the ball cameroons.
They wont be as afraid of small little duff and keane :/

we need a result against germany and then pur a few goals past saudi and hope for the best in the Cameroon - Germany game.

Yes! The Saudi players were micro. It was funny to see a German player come in and just send the poor Saudi flying. Heads will roll in the Saudi camp, thats for sure! :D

I think germany are going to beat Germany

Like in the Ireland vs Cameroon game our defense was top notch and our offense was good.
But the germans have a fairly good defense, would be world class if not for the injurys, but there offense is absolutly world class, and you saw how cameroon preformed under the pressure that the irish offense could muster, imagine them vs Germany.
I think we have a good chance to beat germany, if we played like we did vs cameroon in the 2nd half then they dont stand a chance

Hmm, how are they going to manage that?

World class against muppets, against a defence above a level around that of San Marino, who knows. I'd be interested to see if the German forwards can also use their feet in going for goal.

Saudi's performance today was a complete piss-take, and it leaves a tricky two remaining games for the Irish, should it come down to goal difference. Still, I reckon Ireland has a good chance, we are better than Cameroon and hopefully this will show through in the final standings of the group.
