The FAI. Who are they?

Bought lots of tickets and crap off them over the years, but have decided it might be about time I understood how the FAI operate.

Structure: Who makes up the main board(or equivalent) how long are they in these positions and how are they appointed(seem to remember the Eircon League clubs having voting rights)

Finance: Does all finance come for sponsorship, gates receipts & media rights, or does the government plough in money similar to the GAA.

Accountability: Are they actually answerable to anyone other than themselves. Are people reviewed on their performances.

I know there’s lots more, but would appreciate if anyone can shed a little light on these for starters

In order to see how this organisation works, you would probably have to know a little about eircom League soccer. If you don't have this background knowledge, forget it.

The major players are obvious. The smaller the list of the relevant "Board", the more powerful that board is. They are based in Merrion Square in Dublin, again for the benefit of those whose only dealing with them is buying international tickets.

    Bateman,

Thanks for the list. Notice that a lot of people appear on a number of commitees. Is this actually the way the place works(are all these people active on all these commitees), or is it something put out to show they have a structure.

I've been to lots of league games(mostly before Eircom existed) and have a good understanding of the running of one of the clubs. Is that what you call background knowledge.

Yep, that would do you no harm in trying to figure out how the FAI operates. Experience of a senior team, or indeed even experience of schoolboy/junior football workings is all relevant when trying to understand the (F)ools (A)nd (I)diots.
