    http://www.rte.ie/worldcup/2002/0528/keaneroy.html

The aftermath of the Interview is that Mc Carthy said he would consider a return but the players said no or did they ?
This press release makes no sense as no players were there.
Are they that much of a wussy to come out and say it ?
plz be the end of it i pick up the Star and get excited and then hear the radio news and see this.
Hopefully this is the endof it in asad dejected type of way.

    They're all Judases.

Calling the players Judases is not really helpful.

TBH I understand the players statement because all they saw of the Keane interview is the transcript which lets be honest does not make good reading.

At this stage it is too late. I mean if Keane wants to get back on the team why the hell doesn't he ring MacCarthy and sort it out over the phone. This communication via the media is just pure bullsh!t and extremely childish. If he wants to play so much let him ring Mick, apologise and swallow his pride. If hes not prepared to do that why doesn't he just shut the f**k up and stop demoralising those that are left over there.

Last week I was supporting Keane but his actions since then have proved to me that Mick was right to send him home.

    Gandalf.

I heartily disagree - it was only with yesterday's interview and the daily mail interview that we started to see any sort of balance on the whole affair. Keane isn't going back to the world cup, this is about reputations afterwards and McCarthy looks extremely suspect. I expect Keane will be back in an Irish Shirt before his career is over, and McCarthy's career to quickly end.

Yeah I think there is zero chance of them ever playing as part of the same setup ever again. "Keane should just swallow his pride and apologise", it all sounds so simple, but I don't think that is likely to happen, he has already said that he sees no reason to apologise, how could be be sincere if he does? I thin khe feels that the other players have let him down badly at this stage. I mean he never really got on with most of them anyway, but the way they have spoken to the papers about him is patethic.

Well put John, I agree absolutely with what you've said there.

In addition to that, I also wonder about the other players over there - there's no point in saying that they are Judas's, but neither are they innocent. I think that the majority of them have been spineless, and the opinions we're hearing are those of a vocal few, who none of the "junior" players will challenge.

If it were a question of Ireland having either McCarthy, Quinn, Staunton and Kelly, or having Keane, well from a footballing perspective I'd be happy to see the "seniors" (as they like to present themselves to the media), and our incompetent manager, coming home on the next plane. And I'm not the only one with that opinion. Unfortunately it's not going to happen... :(

    Send back Roy.

    Nicely put Trojan.

I am still coming to terms with the fact that none of the other players will stand up and be counted.

As a contrast look at our first opponents Cameroon. They went on strike as a unit over bonuses. They were so resolute they were 5 days late arriving in Japan. I just wish the other Irish players had stood up alongside Roy. They could have done so before the group meeting ever took place.

    Why can't McCarthy be fired?

Because it is up to the FAI!

    Why won't they listen?

    Why should Roy apologise?

He is the only one who has been honest in this whole saga!

McCarthy is obviously upset that Keane questioned his management abilities but isn't he proving that Keano was right?

    This is so depressing !

HOW CAN A MANAGER ACCUSE KEANE OF FAKING INJURY AND STILL BE IN HIS JOB!!

Roy would play with 2 broken legs !!!!

Gary Kelly sarcastically said "Is that it? Is it over now?" after Keane's outburst had finished.

Jason McAteer has made smart comments to the press at the weekend slagging Keane off for his witty oneliners that slag the commitment, or lack of, of the rest of the squd.

Matt Holland, or Matt England if you will, has made comments in the paper to the effect that Keane's outburst was a disgrace etc etc.

Far from supporting Keane, the other players outside the "loyal circle", have made their feelings known to the media in the most pathetic way, and have firmly nailed their colours to the mast. I would think that Ian Harte, Shay Given, Rcihard Dunne, and Robbie Keane would be on Roy Keane's side. I can't think of any others offhand, but I'm sure there are a few more. But then there are the likes of David Connolly, who is English, and I would imagine is against Keane, but has the dignity not to compromise himself at such a crucial time.

And for years everyone thought about the English "ah sure as long as they want to play for the jolly green army, it doesn't matter how Irish (or English) they are". Well I think we have found folks, that the policy or trawling the lower English divisions for players with the most dubious of Irish connections, rather than playing our own, is not perfect.

Germany have taken Carsten Jancker to the World Cup. Here is a man who has not scored A SINGLE GOAL in the Bundesliga all season. And then we have Glen Crowe, and far from people saying "he's just not good enough" (which is true), they say "he plays for a **** team, in a **** league". And these people call themselves Irish. This is a sad time for Irish football, we are going to start looking at the policy that got us to the WC, and ask ourselves was it worth it. If Keane does not come back, and we lose all 3 games, will it have been worth it?

After hearing a 2nd hand report on Quinns lunch-time (GMT) press conference, I've gained back some of the respect for NQ I had lost.

Basically Mick said "lads, there's no way he's coming back as far as I'm concerned. Now go talk about what you want to do".

The lads said "well, gun to our heads like this, we've no real choice but to back you".

Mick says "hey Ireland, the squad have said unanimously that there's no way back for Roy so leave me alone"

NQ says "hey Mick, that's not exactly what we meant!". And tells the real story, of how our squad is being destroyed by this division.

I wish Mick would fuck off back home to incompetantly managing a 1st division team or something. I used to have respect for him, but he's let his pride and ego destroy the world cup hopes of this country.

I'd still like to see Keano fly out and play in game 1, a jet-lagged Keane is still better than any of the others anyday.

I have no confidence in Mick McCarthy and everytime time i say this some muppet flames me out of it for being a part time supporter etc.

But the fact of the matter is that the current team(and future) is probably the best we`ve had in ages. With the likes of Roy Keane(no intro neccesary), Robbie Keane, Duff, Given, Finnan etc.

Now if any muppet manager was in charge they`d find it impossible not to at least play half decent football with these players.

I don`t believe McCarthy has the management skills or personal skills to get the best from his players. Hopefully he`ll get the door after the world cup.

This Roy Keane Saga has shown McCarthy for the useless fúck that he really is.

There, got that off my chest

Let the muppetry of fiery replies in my direction commence

The NQ press conference has increased my respect for him also. He has always struck me as being a highly intelligent and sensitive man.
The self-effacing attitude he took where he said he was surprised that RK hadn't been harder on him as he had known him the longest was the act of a big man.
The biggest obstacle to this situation being sorted as far as I can see is the lack of information available to the Irish squad, NQ seemed to be under the impression that Mick McCarthy would not have Keane back under any circumstances.
I think that a lot of the players who are backing McCarthy now are only doing so because they see it as the professional thing to do, the best thing for the squad and the thing that will get Ireland as far as possible in the WC (bearing in mind that they cannot see Keane returning).
I also think that their attitudes will change when the WC is over, so lets not get too carried away on getting stuck into them, I firmly believe that they BELIEVE that they are doing the best for Ireland.

Im amazed about the players saying that they dont want him back. This afternoon Quinn (almost in tears) saying that they want him back but Mick put them in a position where they could not bring him back..

Mick being told Quinn said this in a press confrence a while later and walking out of said press confrence after 2 seconds..

All we know is that there is big **** in the camp, and Im really *really* worried that we could get taken apart in the WC if we are not on the ball.

Please god be there a resolution one way or another tonight so that the team can get focused on what looks to be a very very good Cameroon, there not african champions for **** all.

I think this is the end of it. Players (or a MAJORITY anyway) want Keane back. Manager doesn't. Players with no choice but to support manager. Can't mutiny 5 days before game, isn't practical. Manager goes after the WC. Deffo.

Jesus Christ lads I know you want to talk about it and give your point of view, but quit creating so many new threads! ;) Pick one and discuss - don't create your own every time a new rumour comes out.

    Blitzkrieger.
I sudjest we use your own "Not another.."every time a new rumour comes out.

Here's one:that if the FAI and Mc dont treat him with respect and make an apology that he will change code and line up for england in the next euro championship... He will get English status because he has lived there for more that 9 years and with new EC & UEFA laws it will let players play for more than one senior EUROPEAN country… Talks have started between the English FA and Micheal Kennedy.. watch this space
