I think people have said this before but this is from a mate of mine who's a journalist and usually has very good sources...

Make of it what you will, but its the first time I've read anything of what may have actually been said.

    DeV.

    > I can't confirm any of this but if it is true then it will be
    > confirmed in the News of the World on Sunday I just received this on an email from a colleague who got it from another colleague etc.

    > Apparently the real reason that Roy Keane wanted to go home from the tournament was not because of a training ground argument but the fact That the English papers are preparing to run a "kiss & tell" story on the married father of four . It'll be in News Of The World on Sunday. His wife told him to go back to the World Cup because going home would not keep the Marriage together. He's been shagging about for years. Latest girl claims that she is preggers.

    > Also... I have this on good authority from someone who is a v good friend Of an FAI official who was at the internal meeting this morning that decided Keane's fate.

    > The meeting was about Roy, at which Roy said something along the Lines of (to McCarthy): who the f*ck do you think you are having meetings about me. You were a crap player and you are a crap manager. The only reason I have any dealings with you is that somehow you are the manager of my country and you're not even Irish you English c*nt. You can stick it up your b*ll*cks.

I'm probably going against the grain but I have to admit I'm starting to side with Keane. I remember when all the contraversy broke out a couple of days ago I was vying for Keane's blood but now that I read between the lines I can see that he just wanted what was best for the team (admittedly going about it in the wrong way).

Also I feel that McCarthy reacted in the way he did not because he was worried about "team morale" but more because didn't like being so clearly undermined and exposed for the sub-par manager that he is.

It's unfortunate now that we have lost the best Irish player in history simply because we have a football association who couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery and a manager who can't effectively deal with players with a stronger desire for success than his own.

It just shows you that if you speak your mind too much then you're going to end up paying for it :(

I take your point, but if he really did want what was best for the team then

    1) He failed
    2) Why aren't they supporting him?

I think Keane is being punished for the way he did things, not what he did in itself. Jack Charlton looked genuinely shocked when Pat Kenny showed him what is alleged to have been said to McCarthy.

I think the players gave the offical line of being against him because ...

    a) some of the players genuinely didn't like the guy

    b) because they were told put on a public show of solidarity with McCarthy before the whole camp turned into something resembling Hollands biannual pre-tournement battlezones.

    c) some of the players don't have Keanes singleminded approach towards preparations for this tournement ... which is the most worrying thing of all.

True you dont know what to think but bottomline is Keane isnt going and its not someones elses fault its his own.
there is noone else to blame Mc Carthy did what he ahd to ,if keane had toher reasons to do this it makes him a even bigger W*****e than i 1st thought.
he might play for Man U and get 1st class everything with them but this isnt Man U.
Our league shows how good we are at football he knows this hes played in it.
So he has single minded preparations dont the other 22 players have the same crappy training facilities as him ???
Do they go mental over it no thye get on with it and do their jobs something Keane should have done.
Buts it all done with now all i cna say is good luck to Ireland i wont be cheering for them any less.

Btw i hope the team is registered :)

McCarthy must take most of the blame IMO for absolutely brutal man management. Imagine that you did something out of the way in work, you are called into a meeting with all the members of your department and balled out of it there. I know I for one would be throwing a few f ucks into my boss if he did that to me. That meeting should have been held between McCarthy, Keane ad one mediator from the staff that both people trusted, and then they could have thrown all the f ucks they wanted into each other to clear the air and noone would be the wiser.
Also I think that it is atelling fact that players who playued with McCarthy are backing Roy - McGrath, Aldridge, Sheedy, Townsend and Houghton. Keane is a stubborn f ucker but so is McCarthy and in this instance I feel that the onus is on McCarthy as the "Manager" of Ireland, who's brief is to get Ireland as far in the WC as possible, to sort the situation out and not let his personal dislike of Keane get in the way.

    As afr as the rumours about Keane's personal life go I'd take that all with a pinch of salt, so far I've heard;
Keane's wife was sleeping with another man,
Keanes wife was sleeping with Andy Cole  (this one was supposed to have originated from Roy's cousin)
    Keane's mistress is pregnant.
Strangely enough all these rumours were doing the rounds in Cork the last time he had a big row at Old Trafford. ;)

    >sub-par manager that he is.

As in under par? As in good?

If its a personal battle between the manager, and a player, ANY player, the manager has to win, to show guts. I don't know how people can say McCarthy has shown himself up over this. Keane at the airport telling us all that he has "no regrets" says it all, for me. He values his family more than the World Cup. So whats the point in arguing any more?

    >the last time he had a big row at Old Trafford

Am I missing something? He doesn't have many rows at Old Trafford, at least not of these proportions. He cares more about United than about Ireland, Unietd even flew him home, that says a lot about how he and they feel about club-country.

    sub- : below
    par : average
    check the dictionary next time.

And in reference to your comments McCarthy isn't a bad manager for sending Keane home. He is a bad manager for letting this whole situation happen in the first place.

Eh, where have you been? I seem to remember him threatening to walk out on Ferguson and ManU a couple of years ago unless his pay demands were met? That was pretty big news at the time and had his contract not been satisfactory its seems now that he probably would have run off.

    >>>He is a bad manager for letting this whole situation happen in the first place.

Yeah it probably was him who told Keane to have an affair.

I think thats called "negoatiating". I don't think he berated Ferguson for being Scots and having the cheek to manage Man Utd.
When he was out of contract, he was offered deals from other clubs. He could have went on a free transfer to Juve etc etc. Obviously you are a (bitter) ManU fan if you consider this "walking out".

Well if you call that "negotiations" then this current situation is no different.Back then Keane was using his position as a player "in demand" as a blackmailing chip towards a team who clearly were going to do everything possible to keep him, and he knew it!

This time he's clearly been up to his old tricks. He obviously figured that he was such an indispencible part of the Ireland team that he could push the buttons of man X, Y, and Z as far as he liked without any repocusions.

After he walked out and was then convinced to say he must have felt like a kid in a candy store. Hense the continued public outbursts which lead to him eventually being kicked off the team. He's putting on a rather nonchalant facade now but I'd say he was pretty shocked and dissapointed when McCarthy gave him his marching orders.

BTW, I amen't a ManU fan, never was and never will be.

Look, the bottom line is this:

Keane acted disgracefully by publicly slamming his manager and teammates, it's irrelevant what his (or anyone else's) opinion of how good a manager McCarthy is, the fact is that he is the manager, he has the final say on everything. If Keane or anyone else didn't like how things were being done, they know the appropriate way to air their grievances. Going to the media is wrong. If this alleged affair he's having is part of the reason for all this, then he has nobody to blame but himself.
