The submissions to the forum on broadcasting are now up at www.forumonbroadcasting.ie

Be warned! Some of them make quite heafty reading (TV3's alone is 26 pages long), those of you with access to broadband connections at work or college may want to read them over them instead. Those of you with narrowband might want to Right-click and Save Target instead, and read them later.

When people have read them (or gotten bored trying), how about posting here what they think?

    Taken from www.iftn.ie

    TV3's Submission:-

1)all broadcasters (including RTE and TG4) should be regulated by a single regulator, the BCI

2)state funding for RTE and TG4 to be directly linked to Irish produced programming content including Irish sport

3)RTE to commit to a minimum of 75% Irish produced content between 7pm and 11pm

4)TG4 to commit to a minimum of 80% Irish language content between 7pm and 11pm, moving up to 100% within three years and be properly funded to do so

5)replace the indiscriminate licence fee with a value added tax on cable/satellite/MMDS/etc subscription fees.

    Considering each point IMO only:-

    1) No as RTE have to many people at the moment they have to answer too, only if it is only the BCI that RTE have to answer too.

    2) We (TV3) will never invest money into Irish Sport even if it is GAA as it is too expencive to produce.

    3) We (TV3) have no plans to provide the irish viewer with even 10% of irish television during the hours of 7 and 11 we currently produce no show for these time slots.

    4) TG4 English programming is becoming a pain in the ass its not fair we (TV3) have to compete with them.

    5) We haven't got a clue, how much of a tax? where does the money go? how much money would be raised? will TV3 get any of it?

We can now come to the conclusion that Irish TV in general (That is home produced TV) is PBS as it is generally too expencive to make and we can also conclud that RTE need the TV lience to surive.

The Sky one is interesting. Its all about how they service would suit PBS because of CA and how it can have regions etc of course which they charge for it like they way say they charge for it. Also they mention SKY Active which launches "later this year".

Was it all just talking heads?
