Episode 2 question????

I'm still trying to get my head around this one.
Keep in mind that I'm not the biggest Star Wars fanatic so I'm waiting to be shot down for this.

Okay

In Ep 2 we meet Owen Lars who is the half brother to Annakin.
He also goes on to raise Luke who eventually leaves in EP 4.
We also find out that C3PO has been living with Mr Lars?? his father & Annakins mother for the last 10 years since Annakin left.

Well then, why didn't C3PO & Owen recognise one another in Ep 4 when Owen buys the 2 droids off those little dudes with the funny eyes. Come to think of it C3PO doesn't recognise anything about the planet, the home absolutely nothing.

Has anyone got an answer, coz it's driving me and a mate mad

heh i was thinking the same thing, the only reason i can think of is that 3p0 leaves when owen is still pretty young and doesn't return for a long time (so Owen forgets him, probably goes through a lot of those droids anyway), and as for 3p0... hmm, maybe he gets his memory erased?

Yep, answer is just bad writing to try to unnecessarily include 3cpo in these scenes for comic relief and for nostalgic values. I've said this in another thread and I'll say it again...I blame the writer...

For a non fanatic you seem to h ave done your home work.. hehe..

As to the recognition.. it could be said that one droid looks the same as another so unless he reads the number or hears the name he will not know the difference... besides its a long time.. he is old in ep4!

You could also argue that Obewan looks nothing like the original and does not sound like him either because its a different actor... etc etc.. It cant be perfect and Lucas may be using his poetic licence... its his baby he can do what he likes, its not like he needs our money!!

Another thing... in ep 4 he buys c3po completed in a shiny gold colour body... so far he has been a mrust bucket with no proper shiny outer shell in the prequals! So he does not look anything like him!

This isn't a flaw, obviously he's going to get a new body coating in Ep3

Alb you should probably read the post again m8... it was not supposed to be a flaw... it was a possibe explanation of why c3po was not recognised!

Have to agree with Saruman, he probably just looked like any ol droid, especially after being spruced up a little.

Also he's really old in ep 4, and really young in ep 2. Big difference there. If I was an old fart raising some rebel little POS Luke Skywalker I probably wouldn't pay to much attention to which droid is which either.

Otherwise I'd say it was just artistic licence. Lucas created Star Wars, he doesn't owe anyone anything. He can do with it what he likes really. I know I would

Ahh.......you have nearly all helped to answer my question.

I'd say I'd have to agree with you all regards the Owen recognizing C3PO as he's a shiney & new in EP4, but what about 3po recognizing owen, I would say that I agree with "kaids"

That he must get his memory erased, coz in EP4 if you remember he doesn't remember who OB1 is either.

The line is about R2D2 and "He say's he's the property of an Obi one Kenobi, who ever that is!"


Lets see does Mr Lucas remember it in EP3

The whole point of Luke Skywalker growing up on Tatooine was to hide him from his father. C3P0 obviously ends up knowing more about this plot than he was meant to and subsequently has his memory erased (presumably by someone either than obiwan) to protect the secret. Same with R2D2.

It's also been established that the humans in the SW universe don't really give two sh1ts about droids and for Lars to recognise 3po 20+ years after the fact would be like me taking 50 commodore 64s down from the attic and asking you to guess which one was yours.
