I see on www.satellite.ie that Sky+ is to be introduced in ROI sometime around June, has anyone any update on this?

If you want a Sky + before then please e-mail me on dkrizlam@aol.com. I will be able to sort one out.

Getting the actual Sky + box is not difficult. You can buy it over the counter in most electrical shops in the UK. The problem is getting the recording functionality activated. Sky will not do this for customers in the republic.

Hi, I posted that info to the faq sometime ago and to be honest I have no further info at this point. I would not mind having one myself simply to get the digital audio.

I had the privlidge of seeing and Sky+ box active in Ireland.
Im sure you all knows how this would work and is only a viable option for a very few.

I would prefer the option to view another channel while the ma watches "the street" rather than having 2 subs.

I presume that the Sky + you saw working was one with a UK subscription. Like Tony and Robert, I have been told that it should be available in June here in the republic. Nothing specific though.

Tony, there is not a huge amount of stuff in Dolby Digital at the moment. The only channel it is available on is Sky Premiere Widescreen (and the WS Box Office Channels) but even then not all of the films have the Dolby Digital soundtrack.

    Hmmmm.
Sky plus box £300 sterling plus £10 per month.
Outlay after 12 months £420 sterling.

Cost of DVD Recorder in Belfast £1000 sterling-once off, with most of the usefull features of Sky plus and a two year guarantee without handing over hard earned dollars to Sky.
57 interest free days on the credit card....tempting...:p
    mm
p.s Tony as I'm not going to the World cup, I can entertain these crazy ideas(just!):D

Talked to Doug in Armstrongs today who says a July launch is most likely. DVD recorder does sound good but you would also need a second sub and box to record and watch two different channels. I'm sure the DVd price will come down in time. Personally I'm not in favour of ongoing payments to subsidise a product, especially since the £10 a month is forever, longer term I think it's bad value for customers.

    July, what year?

I am getting quite worried now as Sky say it will launch in the Summer. We seem to have skipped Summer and gone straight to Winter here today. Will Sky know this as I have the phoneline connected?
