As the title indicates I have a Creative GeForce2 and an Audigy Player. I would like to be able to use X-Windows although runlevel 2 is usable. I have XFree 4.1.0 Kernel 2.2.16 SuSE 7.0 . I need NVidia drivers but I can't seem to find them. I realise that I will need to recompile the kernel and possibly XFree.

I dual-boot with Win98 so this isn't too urgent but it would be nice to use X-Windows. I have about 2 months experiance with linux.

You should be able to run X using a basic SVGA server with X. You just have to use the config facility provided with Xfree.

examples are XF86Setup, xf86config. There are a few variations of it aswell. Some have a GUI and autodetection and some are command line so u need to know what hardware you have. But the SVGA server will work with almost any card so its your best bet. The compiling and installation of the nVidia drivers isnt nessesary till you want to run OpenGL apps etc from X, but its best to get it working as basic as possible and then progress from there.

As regard using your audigy, well the emu10k SB live driver mite actually work with it. Theres a thread from a month or so back with some details about using it with some usefull links.

    here it is :)

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

Thanks for that. I found the proper driver for my Audigy but still have to test it. (I hate pulling files using smbmount). Now I just need something for my graphics card.
