Kennedy out of World Cup

Just heard that Kennedys injury has flared up again and that he is out of the World Cup squad. Should be good news for either Healy or Reid.

While i wasnt Kennedy's biggest fan you've just gotta feel for him, playing in a World Cup is a once in a lifetime thing. Best of luck to Reid though who i think offers a bit more on the right as cover for Jayo

Millwall youngster Steven Reid has been drafted into Mick McCarthy's 23-man Irish World Cup squad after Mark Kennedy was forced to withdraw from the squad with a groin injury.

Reid was apparently heading to the airport with his girlfriend for a holiday in Barbados this morning when he got a call from the Irish manager. Although McCarthy has said he won't be announcing Kennedy's replacement until this evening, Reid revealed he is the player chosen to travel. The winger announced on Millwall's official website: "I had booked a holiday a couple of days ago to Barbados. My brother picked me up this morning to take us to the airport, I turned my mobile on and there was a message from Mick McCarthy to ring him and he said that I'm going to Japan.

"To be in the Irish squad is a massive bonus and to play a second or a minute in the World Cup would be a dream come true."

I know this is a bit harsh but he really is no great loss especially these days.
A summer off might mean he can stop being so much of a crock and actually realise his potential.

I think it should have been Healy. He would offer more in the event he had to be used. Either way, in the event of an injury/suspension to Keane or Holland, Kinsella will come in, so Reid or Healy's chances of playing are very low in my opinion.

Hard luck Kennedy, I must say, unlike some insensitive people. Even if he wasnt the best player, you have to feel sorry for the lad.

Reid is a right sided player, Healy is a central midfielder. We need cover for the right side of the midfield. We have four central midfielders in the team already and only one natural right sided player (McAteer), now we have a second. So Reid would have been McCarthy's only choice.

im delighted that reid is goin to the world cup!! i would rate him 4 or 5 times better than kennedy!! he has always been overrated!!! he has never played well for ireland!! and he is crap any way!!!

Reid plays right or centre midfield, Kennedy played left wing.

Reid can play on the left too if nessecary, or in defence, he's a lot more versatile than Kennedy will ever be.
