Try get population up.
it takes 2000 colonists to have one baby each turn.
Make sure its well defended. Buy some fighters and deploy them to planet along with some colonists. try get population up to 50 million. The guy says in the faq that that is pretty good,

Also get more planets and keep track of them. if there is trading post on 2 of your planets create a trading link. as i get more info ill let u know
