You can get one by not involving your mate. But I think you will have to buy a second hand digibox (from ebay and places like that) which come with a BBC FTA card married to that box.
(I think thats how it works). I'm not to sure if you can get the card from the box you buy and get it married to your irish box.

I think to get one working in your present box you'll have to ask your mate. It's really not much to ask cause I've done it. All you do is phone a number they'll post the card to your mate he/she posts if over to you and you stick it in your digibox and phone the UK to get it activated. It takes about 15hrs for all chans to come on.

You can get them for about £30 Sterling on www.ebay.co.uk.
Important though you also need the Name, Address, phone Number and Access code
of the person who originally ordered the card. You need this information for when you call up the
BBC Freephone number to activate the card.
It will work on your present box ok.
The person on the other end of the phone has been known to ask
for your Digibox serial as well, so keep that handy. But swap the third and fourth digits.

if you go down the road of purchasing a second box with the FTA card included you can marry your existing sky sub to that box and just change the cards around depending on which channel you want to watch. BTW this is best done on channel 501 sky news, change the cards wait aobut 10 seconds and your good to go, if you do it on a channel that is not FTA it reboots the box and takes about 90 seconds.
