Looks like Matrox are entering the 3D arena again with this new baby, 512Bit GPU and 256bit Memory DataPath,

"World's first 512-bit GPU delivers unparalleled image quality, superior performance and wide range of innovative features for the ultimate visual experience"

From all the press it looks like a geforce4 beater..

Well i hope so. Nvida needs a kick up the a*se!

It happende to intel when amd got the athlon out and now look how cheap PC`s are. 650 EUR for a bloody graphic card. So i wish all the best to matrox with this card.

Remains to be seen what their drivers and support are like though!

Id buy one... but the fact no one but Matrox has actually seen the card in action makes me wonder. Its supposed to be out in a month, yet, where are the cards??

I also have concerns over the drivers... my G400 had so so OpenGL support and Matrox seemed to be really struggling to get it going the way it was meant to be.

Im interested in the 3DLabs P10... a company that specialises in driver development (they are heading the OpenGL 2.0 inititive) and ultra high end cards. At the very least it should kick ass in Doom3. Their take over by Creative can only strenghten the company, in the $$ sence anyhow.

This is an almost exact replay of the 3dfx/nVidia thing a few years back.
3Dfx got stuck in a rut re-using the sameold technology and nVidia went ahead and releaseda new bit of tech with new fancy colours and flashy lights. They subsequently bought out 3dfx.
Now they themselves have fallen to the smae trend of rehashing old tech and throwing Mhz and extra vertex pipes at the problem.
a 256-bit memory bus has been long overdue in the consumer market and it'll make good use of AGP pro one would hope :).
Nice big fat low-latency pipes and cut back on the caching of data, another way to go forward for high performance stuf, the PS2 being an example

...but in the olden days when 3D wasn't as important, Matrox were top of the heap - in terms of pure picture quality, there wasn't (and still isn't, IMHO) anything to touch them in 2D. If they can do the same in 3D, I'm putting my hand in my wallet...
