Did anybody in GB/NI take part in the national IQ test on BBC1 on Saturday night?

National IQ test on TV??? How does that work? Besides the results would be flawed...

Well it was certainly flawed (they managed to deduce that West Brom fans have an average IQ of 138!), but is probably a bit of harmless fun nonetheless. The only national results they got were people who played on-line during the running of the programme, and sets of stereotyped people in the studio audience (blondes, builders, teachers etc. etc.). They had some celebrities in and some resident shrinks, the format being a set of 70 questions on logic, verbal reasoning, pattern recognition etc. with time-limits of 10-30 seconds.

Really though, I personally don't rate IQ as a genuine concept as intelligence is dependent on what you need it for and is not quantifiable.

138! well that says it all really, the average human supposedly has an iq of 90 while doctors average 120.

Yeah, well I suspect some monkey business went on with that one. It was broadly an OK test though - the celebrities averaged 97 and the teachers averaged 110.

As I said before, though, even Mensa tests only measures certain mental skills - I bet most members of Mensa can't cook a decent lasagne...

hehe i can cook.. guess that means my IQ is higher than the mensa people..

Dont know who did the crappy one i did.. but it was one of them online ones!! rubbish...

i've done a load of online ones. they're pretty simple to do. always seem to get 140+ in them...they are a load of rubbish as results go, but they're a bit of crack.

I.Q. pffffff, mines 43 and i get by alright, but when you look at the smartest man in the world steven hawking iq of 290 or above, he cant even wipe his own ass. And then you see someone like david beckam with an iq somewhat less than average man, one of the greatest footballers around.
So having a high iq doesnt automatically mean you will become a success in life.

If i had know earlier I would have got as many people to take the test and fail in order to make it look like the English population are getting dumber :D:D

I did the test (how sad is that?) and scored 109 but so what?, I'll be no richer for the knowledge...

Isnt your IQ supposed to be ((mental age / phsical age) * 100) ???

The average human should have an IQ of 100.

Interestingly....I saw an ad recently. Did you know that iodine deficiency can cause a loss of 10 to 15 points of IQ. Dont ask me how.....but apparently it can.

I've never taken an IQ test. I've no interest in comparing myself to the rest of the world, or receiving the self-gratification (or otherwise) of knowing "exactly" how smart or stupid I am.

It can depend on the test. There's a lot of vague tests out on the web where Tom Dick *and* Harry all score over 120. Go for the full tests (usually Mensa).

And yes people that score high in that can cook lasagne. I make a bitchin' lasagne, can post some over to you if you want.

If you're looking for one of the vague score-a-lot tests, that will boost your ego, I think there's some on www.iq-test.com

Caesar_Bonjangle I don't think you can compare Hawking and Beckham. Being able to kick a ball around isn't exactly a major success for human development in my book. "Oh look I can bounce the ball on my head too" ;)

On a similar note, try out the old puzzle listed on boards.ie:

I wasnt really comparing beckam and hawking as such. I was just saying a high intelligence quotient isnt everything, look at some of the greatest men who ever lived, Jimmy hendrix, beethoven, h from steps, alexander graham bell, homer simpson. These guys changed the world, may not have been the smartest but they did something and will be remembered .
    And ya cant forget jesus.

Some of my brainyist fellow school pupils were pretty thick when it came to real life...
