Episode II - I've seen it...

I couldn't think of a way to start this thread and I haven't put in any spoilers but if i do i'll use the tags.

I've seen it tonight in a [enter place where i work] cast show and well....

I loved it, but I liked episode I (make the difference, i liked ep. I, didn't think it the best tho) so take that as you will. People did walk out think it was a pile of poo and to be honest, I know that people are going to dislike / hate it and I can see why. I do still think that empire is the best movie but then again i'm rambling on.

and if you hated jar jar in the first one, you're going to want to kill the son of a b**ch after seeing this.

    about the characters:

Obi-wan really is the man  . He really is. My favourite character in the movie anyhoo.

Anakin is a whiney moany little bastid. I think that's what lucas wanted us to feel but feck me he does go on. listen for liam neesons voice in one part.

    Jango...well...jango's jango I suppose

I won't say anything about the rest, don't want to spoil anything.

It did definately have a stronger story than the first one and did feel like more of a star wars movie than ep. I.

For those not looking forward to CGI, you WILL be disappointed, as CGI does play a major part through a lot of the film. maybe even more so than ep. I.

And good oul C3PO, well, hehe :D

Anyway I'm off to play JKII. Gonna saber me some n00bies ;)

Any questions post here and i'll try to answer in as non-spoiler'ish way as i can.

    Later people.

    Really bad review q_ball !

Yes i was at one of those UCI staff screenings tonight aswell.

And heres what i thought !

Unlike what q_ball says if you didnt like jar jar (lets face it thats most of us) you will be happy to know he is on screen for a total of about 10mins ! only has a few small lines.

The cgi does play a major part but its kick ass and looks great.
The cgi of yoda is fantastic ...and yes yoda has a fight scene , i heard he did and thought it would look st1t but lucas pulled it off and it looked great.

The story is great , alot more empire than phantom (thank God)
Anakin is a bit of a moan but it shows he is starting to turn to the dark side so it was needed. Also the lovey dovey lines where needed .... how else would luke and leia come about if he didnt get his leg over , eh ?

Theres not much more i can say without spoiling ... if your a starwars fan you wont be disappointed and if your not you will still like it ( i was with my gf and she hasnt even seen the trilogy and thought it was great)

Well done Lucas you have redeemed yourself after a disappointing episode 1

It's what he does for the story.
who motions to give senator palpatine ultimate power? friggin jar jar! If he didn't, the emperor may never have come to power

Back on topic (seeing as that attachment has gone)

The one thing that puzzles me (and I know I'm rather getting ahead of myself) is how Lucas is going to end EpIII

Now we all realise Anakin will turn to the dark side (that's as much of a spoiler as giving away the end of Titanic) totally by the end of epIII. And the whole six movie package is really Anakin's story more than anything else.

Working on the assumption that the new three movies follow the same basic pattern as the first three (first movie - upbeat ending, second movie - not necessarily so upbeat, third movie - more upbeat than not), can Lucas somehow get an upbeat ending into the thd of the prequel trilogy? If not, your traditional audience isn't going to be too happy at just seeing a mutilated Anakin (coming out of the pit as mentioned by Obi Wan in ep6) pulling on a dark mask and cape.

Having said that, I'm sure we'll get a cinematic re-release of the original three movies again so that everyone can see them in order on the big screen.

Like everyone else, I really want to see the green MissPiggy-voiced one wielding a lightsaber.

fine then, i ll start my own message board with no mods.
Theres already a pirate version of episode 2 available on the net, its meant to be poo poo quality though.

Saw it in the Savoy on Saturday. It's hard to make an unbiased assessment of the film after 1 sitting so I think I'll reserve final judgement for when I see it on Wednesday nite and Thursday.

From first impressions thought it kicks Episode I's @ss. It's more vintage Star Wars in the way the battles take place and also the story is more of what you'd expect with some great twists. I'll post a review on Friday. :)

Two major ones, released by different groups on the same day. Quality is the standard telesync - camera in the theatre (though one has better sound than the other)

Going to see it on the big screen - waste of time doing anything else. Won't be able to see it till after my exams (post 25th) so I'll be expecting a few good non-spoiler reviews people.

I remember Lucas saying before that the movies were ment to be told and seen from the point of view of C3P0 and R2D2.

Kinda puts the whole Darth Vader made C3PO in perspective :)

I saw it too in the Savoy on Saturday morning.

I am a MAJOR SW fan, and always have been, and all I am going to say is that IT ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see it again!!!

The Force is strong with this one...

I saw starwars in the savoy on Saturday (I liked the way the cinema 1 said now showing about a boy!)

Have to say that it rocked, yoda looked well cool & his fight with you know who was excellent, the cgi was a bit dodgy in places ( those cow type things in the field with annie riding them was well dodgy, can't wait to see ep3.

Big thanks to susan for getting the tickets, & cheers for sipderman tickets (sunday 18th may);)

Have the crappy ep 2 copy from the net.. not going to watch it... will see it in the cinema.. probably more than once!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,595 ✭✭✭Gaz

Hey Saruman i have that copy too and its really **** ... will just spoil it for you. I seen it in the cinema on Friday and thought it was great ...nothing like sitting in the darkness with your popcorn and suddenly the starwars logo and John williams score comes up .... i was grinning for half an hour just because of the opening credits ! I have to agree with the post above ... although most of the CGI is fantastic, if it involves a human being close to it , it looked a bit **** ... ie: those cow things and Obi wans mate Dex.

Although that being said i thought Yoda looked great and he interacted with real people alot !

WHERE WOULD ONE GO TO OBTAIN A COPY OF THE FILM OFF THE NET.

    PM ME PLEASE......PRETTY PLEASE ???

Trust me mate you dont want to get the copy thats on the net , the sound keeps cutting out and the video is dark and blurry ...but if you must you will get it on IRC and the newsgroups

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 660 ✭✭✭anthonymcg

The only CG that I thought was dodgy was with the cow things in the field. It musta been really hard to shoot that though so I don't really mind.

Cant wait to see it again. We're booked in for Wednesday at midnight (UGC) and again Thursday night in Ster Century.

Did you not think the scene where
Obi wan was in the diner asking Dex about Jango's dart ...did you not think Dex looked crap ..his face was ok but when he picked up the dart or when he hugged Obi wan i thought he looked very computer generated
    looked very computer generated ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 660 ✭✭✭anthonymcg

No I thought that sequence was quite good actually. Very hard to render something that complicated. The actors did really well talking and interacting with the CG characters aswell.

Oh yeah. And then some. It'll still be in your local multiplex until at least mid-July (may even be understating it).

Surely you can spare a few hours to go see the movie.. too much work and all...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,393 ✭✭✭Inspector Gadget

I thought there was one scene that fell down a bit, as far as CG goes, in Episode II (spoiler'ed to be nice):
When Anakin "forces" the apple-type fruit to his side of the table, slices it, and sends it back, the moment when Amidala bites the slice shows that she (Natalie Portman - and isn't she looking very well!) didn't realise the'd have to feign some resistance as she bit into it...

yes it was a bit like she was biting into water

So what was everyones favourite scene ???

    Personally i thought
the scene where anakin went metal on the sand people was cool
Oh and of course Yoda's fight scene was excelent, i really liked the part where he used the force to get rid of what dooku threw at him and then made that "Come on , bitch" look with his hands up like a karate stance ... you know the one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

Sigh... anyway yeah LOTR was around for months so im sure this will be too!

Having sat through the whole two-and-a-bit hours of it on the big screen in Screen 1 of the Savoy in Dublin (I'd imagine it's one of the bigger screens in Ireland, isn't it?) there's no way I'd watch it on a computer. No surround sound, plus the detail that will inevitably be lost when compressing it to a downloadable (1CD/2CD) size. The DVD will have to be released before there's a decent copy available for download, and by then, well...

Believe me, you can find a way. I found a way to see the re-releases of Episodes 4, 5 and 6 during my final year exams for my degree... if I can squeeze in three, you can surely manage one...

You know it makes sense :D

Just one question for people who have seen it (after reading the NY Times review of the movie.

Just a "yes" or "no" answer will do (as I want to know just how big a carton of popcorn I need to be able to throw at JarJar)

    Question:
They made him a senator? A ******* senator? True or not? Oh, the humanity!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 479 ✭✭phoenix2181

yes they made him a senator

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 660 ✭✭✭anthonymcg

They did yes but it's a very small part. He only has a few lines here and there. I'd say you'd need a small popcorn. :)
