Wa-hay for World Telecoms Day (The Register)

World Telecommunication Day 2002 (International Telecommunication Union (ITU))

    Of note:
World Telecommunication Day 2002 is ... an excellent opportunity to launch public campaigns and advocacy activities in favour of equal access to ICT for all those who find themselves at an information disadvantage. The challenge is to empower all people to cross the Digital Divide.
In an ideal world, the end of that sentence would have read: "...by shutting off the obstacles to access, namely the incumbent telecommunications operators. Like Eircom in Ireland."

EDIT: Actually, even that doesn't fill it out properly: "... and the regulatory authorities who only take action when the entire market is heading round the u-bend." Sorry about that.
