Any two of the following centre backs

    Ayala
    Nesta
    Hofland
    Thuram

Along with Lizarazu and Stephen Carr. Cover for Beckham and Giggs and another striker.

Nesta and Thuram have an almost 0% chance of leaving their current club- their wages would never be matched by Man Utd, nor would they choose to leave their current teams knowing the rotation system Ferguson uses, even in defense. Both have a guaranteed place in the starting 11 of their respective teams, if I were them I'd see no reason to leave. Very simply- Fergie shouldn't have let Jap Staam go, he is simply one of the world's best defenders.

As an Arsenal fan, I don't think we *need* to buy anyone except possibly a centerback as cover for Keown/Campbell, especially considering Adams' retirement.

As for Patrick Viera's future- he's simply our most valuable player after Thierry Henry, and a worthy successor to Tony Adams as wearer of the armband. If he doesn't sign that one-year extension to his contract, and we decide to cash in on Madrid's offer, so be it. Recent history shows that players who have left Arsenal for bigger clubs in spain haven't exactly had the best time of it (sup Anelka, Petit, Overmars). Not only that, but despite the Viera rumours we've been linked with Edgar Davids and Barry Ferguson. Either one of those would give us the strongest midfield in the Premiership imho. Imagine Viera & Davids in midfield, and a choice of Van Bronckhurst, Pires, Ljungberg and Edu to fill the remaining two spots in midfield, /drool.

well id love to see shevchenko in a united shirt and with the way the italian league is at the moment i hope he joins.
him and van the man would be cool.
on the midfield sid eof things we need a two footed player who can cover for both giggs and beckham rare i know but then say good bye to fortune. A new keeper would be nice barthez is good but too many mistakes imho. buffon id love to see in a united shirt.

They need a new keeper, I don't like Barthez - he not consistant but when he is on form he's world class. I'd blame him for Utd not getting the title. It was his blunders at the start of the season that sent them into the losing steak that ultimately cost them the league.
Then they need a full back. The Neville sisters should be cut loose. And get rid of Blanc he's past it. Bring in Nesta or Ayala.
Then get rid of Veron and bring in another centre midfielder.

But the big names don't seem to be suiting them - ye all saw what happened with Blanc and Veron - thye aint doing the job.

I say back to the academy and bring in th eyouths like new Giggs, Becks, Scholes.

Utd's best players have come thru the academy. Well Keano being the exception

But it's the Pool - the original reds for the league next year.

    You'll never walk alone

Here's the way I see it...
    Placente (left back)
    Nesta (centre back)
    Ayala (centre back)
    Thuram (right back)
    Exteberreia (right midfield)
    All in...

    Neville brothers
    Blanc (he's retiring)
    Irwin (retiring)
    Silvestre
Johnsen (great player, but we need someone else that can play week in week out and not be injured all the time. Pity, he could have been one of the best in Europe only for the knee.)
    All out...

I say keep Veron for another year, and if he doesn't deliver the goods ship him off to Rochdale. Same with Forlan. I am very confident they will play exceptionally well next season. Learning alot in Pre-Season should help them.

Whoever said that about Barthez... shove a bananna in your mouth FFS! Even the Great Dane made mistakes back in his glory days... Plus the fact that Barthez was put under pressure by a very dodgy defence.

One of my mates showed me a paper today (Sun or Herald or Star or something like this) saying Juve will only let Thuram go if they get Giggs in a swap. On the subject of Thuram, you have to take into account he has only been with Juve one season and they just won serie a. He is a first choice player. Why would he leave?
As for Arsenal players not doing well in Spain. Overmars was finally settling in at Barce and putting in some good performances.
Utd I dont think could afford to buy Nesta and keep Veron.

Nah... sell off Veron, and buy probably the best midfielder in Europe at the moment - Lee Carsley.

Like the idea of Thuram for Giggs, Giggs needs a fresh start he`s gone off the boil a little. This leaves an nice doorway for Duff, his goal on Wednesday was class. He`s a lad with a future and UTD would be a great move.

Ive heard that Ronnie Johnsson being talked of as a human tampon... in for a week out for a month:-)

It will be interesting to see if UTD spend much in the close season. With out the definite dollars from Champ. Lge the board might not be too willing to spend. We`ll have to wait and see.

money shouldnt be a problem at man utd!!! but i'd keep barthez in goal he's excellent!! as for a good buy i'd love to see duff at old trafford he's class!!! he's like the energiser bunny keeps goin and goin and goin!!! as for veron he wanders too much b4 he came beckham, keane scholes and giggs knew were everyone was when they were playing which is why they were one of the best midfields in the premiership but now with veron he could be anywhere!! another thing though he might be playing the worst game of his life but he might make that one class pass that leads to the winning goal!!! so i'd say give him one more season!!! i like g. neville hes very reliable in defence, bring in hoffland from psv and ayala!!!

Recoba is a quality striker who would do well in the premiership.
