    Hi,

I have recently cancelled my Sky subscription which I had for over a year so I get to keep the box , dish etc.

Since I'm living in Cork I presumed I would still have the Irish terrestrial channels but to my horror they have been blocked by sky!

Am I not entitled to these channels as a resident of the Republic? or can I get a FTA card for these?

I have lots of other FTA channels still like ITN News , Extreme Sports etc but I miss my Emmerdale! hehe

    Thanks In Advance!

No..I'm afraid that in order to receive RTE, TV3 & TG4 you need to have a current/valid ROI Sky Sub...there is no such thing as a FTA/V card for these channels I'm afraid :(

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm afraid thats the situation...

I think it's an absolute disgrace that RTÉ are blocked to people who have cancelled their subscription.

Fair enough, I understand that RTÉ are too cash-strapped to provide a FTV card system, but the fact that licence payers are stopped from viewing them because they don't pay money to Sky every month is disgusting.

RTÉ, hang your head in shame. (Partly for showing those bloody Bond films over and over again, too :D )

Heh, the uninformed amoungst you, now listen carefully:

RTE could not go onto Sky Digital without Rupert money, Sky agreed to cover practically every cost except running and uplink maintenance if RTE agreed that no FTV system would be inplace.

RTE are not cash strapped, they are broke.

And paying a cable co to do so is not?

C'mon guys, this argument keeps cropping up again and again. and until then, I'll keep repeating this....
When I hear this, I dont think folk realise that if you get RTÉ through cable, and get your cable disconnected, then you no longer can get RTÉ via cable.

Sky only have exactly the same arrangement. Pay a sub, get RTÉ; don't pay a sub, no RTÉ.

If you want to get RTÉ differently than through an aerial, you must pay something to a service provider; Sky, Chorus or NTL.

If you are not satisfied, the RTÉ analogue reception is still available for you.

    and
RTÉ's appearance on Sky is in a similar way that the cable co's retransmit RTÉ.
IF you want to watch RTÉ via another method other than aerial, you have to pay a service provider, NTL or Chorus, and now Sky.

Sky only have exactly the same arrangement. Pay a sub, get RTÉ; don't pay a sub, no RTÉ.

Also, it would be commercial suicide of they hand out only FTA channels, and then subscribe to Sky.

If you want to get RTÉ differently than through an aerial, you must pay something to a service provider; Sky, Chorus or NTL. Sky are only playing by the existing rules here. Thats why there will never be RTÉ FTA cards.

RTE FTA, forget it. I cancelled my sky this month and to my pleasure I lost everything. Go get a BBC fta card and forget about RTE>

Just out of interest, what does the screen message say for RTÉ on your cancelled card?

To add to the why , no ftv RTÉ cards.
As Damo stated, They didn't pay to get on Sky, unlike the UK terrestials.
And for once in my life I concur with at least two thirds of Chernobyl's post:D
    They're not broke though...
    ITV digital=example of being broke.
RTÉ = example of being cash strapped.

    Mod Edit:

I've split the thread here, as it veers off topic into the merits of RTÉ. It can be found on the Irish Television board here
