Has anybody got recommendations for a low-end digital camera? I'd like to get something to take a few nice pictures on my travels around the countryside on my motorbike.

Bear in mind i'm a poorly student :D

Are these things any cheaper in the USA? There's a family holiday coming up soon where i'll have an opportunity to pick up a few bits and pieces.

Ive got one for sale its a Sony dsc-p30.I think I went a bit over the top with the price on the FS forum though.
Make me an offer!!Its brand new still in the box.

I don't think i'd be able to offer anything near your preferred price, being a lowly student bum and all :p

300 euros is a bit outside my budget I think.

edit: btw, how much memory has your one got?

Yup, the cameras are generally much cheaper in the states. Picked up my dhc-f707 for 600 Euro cheaper than the rrp here..

Stephen as I said I think I made an error of judgement with the price-but make me an offer and we can negotiate!

The image quality from this camera is superb. Here's an example - quality slightly reduced by Jpeg compression via Paint Shop Pro though :)

Those pics look really great! I'm looking for a camera myself, any chance either of ye could post up the specs on that camera (so I know what to look for)?

Its a Sony DSC-P30 ... 1.3megapixel CCD - you can get cameras with much higher resolution for much higher money :)
It has a 3x optical zoom, and up to 6x digital zoom (ie the picture will deteriorate). Comes with 4mb of sony memory stick media, which is not a lot, but you can go and spend your hard earned cash on more. Also, the LCD screen is a 1.5 inch TFT.
It does like to chew through the batteries though (standard AA ones anyway). I haven't got the expensive sony "infoLithium" battery that's available - apparently it gives much longer batterly life.
It can also record short, low-res MPEG movies (without sound) if you've got enough memory capacity/battery life. Comes with a USB cable for accessing the images via mac/pc, as well as a cable to connect the camera directly to a TV.

I'm quite happy with it - small enough to fit in my pocket as a drive my bike around the countryside :)
