Win Money! Bet on Ireland at the World Cup

Hear me out. I'm not saying we will win it. However, if there is such a thing as an each way bet on the World Cup, then betting thus on Ireland could be profitable, especially as Paddy Power is quoting us at 66-1.

So one fifth those odds ( 13 to 1) is quite a healthy price.

The draw is so lobsided that we could get to the final with just one great performance. Here's how.

We could win our group by drawing with Germany and beating the other two. Germany will stuff up against Saudi Arabia and only draw or win by a solitary goal. Historical fact: the Krauts always play badly against Arabs. See World Cup 1970 v Morrocco (trailed for most of the match Gerd Muller scored a couple of late goals) 1978 v Tunisia (Scoreless draw, Tunisia played them off the park) 1982 v Algeria (lost 2-1 and only qualified thanks to a shameful fix up with Austria).

If we win our group we will play either Slovenia or Paraguay in the next round. Beating them would not be a huge surprise.

Then in the quarter final we could meet Mexico. That is if Italy start badly (as they always do. Remember Giants Stadium) and only finish runners up to Mexico in their qualifying group Now that would be a grudge match. We owe those Tequila slurping chillie munchers BIG TIME for Orlando eight short years ago.

If we win that one we're into the semi final. Note, we haven't had to beat a really good team yet. OK there's Cameroon in the group stages but I reckon they'll be a little jaded for this one after their African Nations Cup heroics.

In the semi we should meet either Spain, Italy or Portugal. We would really have to pull something out of the bag to beat any of those. But one really good performance to get into the World Cup final is a bit of a steal.

Then we will meet either France, Argentina or Brazil. And we'll get tanked.

Get your money on fast before the bookies rumble it.

    Grea post homer :)
I read the subject thinking, oh god , not another lunatic thinking Ireland will do well in the WC. After reading your post however, i think ill nip down the bookies to take advantage of those 66/1 odds :)

It all depends on the first stages and everything else is possible (it would take an unlikely run of results, but i suppose not as unlikely as beating Italy in a world cup...)

Ahh you're just an Arsenal fan feeling magnanimous all of a sudden. :-)
