just wondering how this is worked out? is it only ppl who post who are counted as logged in or are cookies simply renewed (and the user classed as "logged in") everytime the mainpage or equivalent is loaded?
and if its the former whats the time till the person is judged not to be online?
just a wee bit curious to see if ppl i know are actually online right this minute or simply posted something ten minutes ago and then logged off.

its probably a session based solution, i.e. you have so many minutes in a session, as soon as that many minutes have gone since the last time you requested or posted something, you get logged out.
