Skirmish is slightly more expensive but better.

Only after seeing the "end of may" bit, might I suggest forgetting about the end of may completely and having it after the schools/colleges have all finished up for the summer? For an event like this you'd need as big a turnout as possible to make it fun....

No, because then everyone dies really quickly.

    I'd be on for it.

How much is teh extra ammo?

    Skirmish is worse actually

1)Their guns are needlessly overpowered - meaning it doesn't just sting, it seriously hurts.

Put this way .. I've played in Crossfire about 5 times, never once had anythign other than the "odd" minor bruise - probably more from slamming into a tree or something than being hit

I had multiple MASS bruising from skirmish for 3 weeks afterwards.

2)Their games are designed so you fire as much ammo as possible. Basically, some of their games are designed for the sake of shooting, and not having a laugh.

It's like playing Quake. Frag, get fragged, respawn, etc, etc.

Crossfire you get two lives per game ... more like CS boys and girls - and a lot more fun incidentally.

Another example - I've never spent more than an additional 30euro on ammo at Crossfire (and that's not from being knocked out early in games .. quite the contrary). One day in skirmish and I had racked up an aditional 80euro.

3)Their game-zones aren't as good imho either. The likes of their "capture the flag" game-zone layout sucks BIG time, for example.

4)Crossfire is a HELL of a lot easier to get to.

I like that actually, also who are you to judge that they are "needlessly" overpowered? Tippman rifle they use is one of the most popular markers around.
I had multiple MASS bruising from skirmish for 3 weeks afterwards.
my whole year in school went and the bruises were gone after a week. Guess your special :p

That's only your opinion, not fact.

    Again in your opinion only.

When my whole year went, the most anyone person spent was €40 on extra ammo.
4)Crossfire is a HELL of a lot easier to get to. [/B]
    Now that is true.

Haven't been to Skirmish, but Crossfire beats the pants off Splatoon.

BTW, are you sure Crossfire can cater for 100 people at a time??

    ok lads here's the deal,

We'll only be playing the games that they have in their list
http://www.crossfire.ie/games.html , If we don't have time for all of them then on the day whatever people want will be done.
    catfish?

You cannot bring your own weapons because paintball guns are classified as weapons in ireland and only the ones they have are covered by their insurance.

The date is looking more and more likely to be sometime at the beginning of July after all exams are over and done with. Then end of may is just too soon and it doesn't suit alot of ppl. Also i have my own reasons for not having it in June.

    As regards transportation
The coach company crossfire uses has the following coaches:
    16 seater E165 round trip Dublin-Crossfire
    26 seater E230 " "
    34 seater E320 " "
Those buses will be leaving fromas soon as i find out the price for those buses will be picking people up at the train station. Although the transportation was originally going to be organised only for people coming up with me from Cork any1 that wants to join the trip at the train station can do so and be driven from their to the site.

as regards ammunition here's a quote from the crossfire website
"Ammunition: A free starter pack of paintballs is included in all programmes, however if you are trigger happy extra paintballs are available in cartridges of 10 shots at €1.65 (IR£1.30) . Unlike other venues we do not have a 60 shot minimum purchase and you pay for extra paintballs at the end of your programme, so if you return unused cartridges you don't pay for them. "

The cost for the whole thing for each person will be one of 3 of these options:
    1. A train from cork to dublin, a buss from dublin to the site and of course for the return trip and the games themselves.
    2. People who join the group at the bus station and take the bus to the site. (Even if you don't take the bus back to the train station with the group you will still be paying for the round trip)
    3. People who make their own way to the site will only have to pay for the standard crossfire package but will of course be able to avail of the group discount. (Just make sure you're signed up on http://room101.org beforehand otherwise you won't be getting any discount, simple as that)

At some point I will need to get an email from every1 that signs up telling me which option you're taking, otherwise i'm just gonna cross you off the list :p

My brain hurts so i'm gonna stop typing now

and btw sico no they probably can't but i'm still waiting for them to tell me how many they CAN cater for

YOu'll get great range out of the guns, 150ft, etc. .... but most of the time you're hitting people frmo under 40ft.

It's a waste. You can't see people squirm from 150 ft - and from 40 ft at that power its just absurdly painful.

The Criossfire guns still hurt, but its more of a sting than anything.

Ok i've checked and there have already been 55 sign-ups for July 13th (not including the ppl that have signed up on room101). So even with the 16 ppl that have signed up on room101 that's a guaranteed large game of 71 ppl :D

For any1 this applies to: Crossfire are not obliged to check ids on arrival but you must sign a release form when you get there and fill in your date of birth which is all that's needed to prove you're over 18.

Oh btw every1 that intends to sign up do so by may 20th and get as many ppl as you can to sign up. After may 24th the 65 places can no longer be held and capacity for this "LAN" will be reduced as the common public signs up. When every1 is signed up i'll be asking you all for a check made payable to "CROSSFIRE" so that i can confirm the booking.

Get signing up and get every1 you know to sign up too

Friend of mine lives near the Skirmish place.

We went there on a company outing - had an absolute ball - it was magic.

Fell back to his place for beers - got ratted.

One of the highlights of that year, for definite.

    --

My vote goes with Skirmish, - although, to be honest, I've never been to "Crossfire".

I started playing paintball about 13 years ago and over the last few years(since there has been a choice),my fellow players & I have talked about which is better and I have to say Crossfire is better for all the reasons mentioned by Lemming with the following:

the bruising is true, but for 3 weeks?
Half the time the paintballs would not explode on the person so you give up your position and dont get the kill, so you fire 3/4 times to be sure- the target does not like that i can tell you as we all have been hit this way.

Some of the skirmish games have great terrain, but the crossfire aint bad either, the Skirmish terrain looks better with the vehicles.

My big problem with Skirmish was the ammo you bought was not correct.
Buying rounds and getting 9 short and so on. When I counted mine before a game (so I would know how much I was carrying in the hopper) I found the said 9 missing in the baggie I bought. My friends started to check theirs and abount 6 out of the ten of us had not put the ammo in the guns and all were short. no argung from skirmish, and the before the next game we checke dthe ammo and it was fine. (a game to sort it out???)

I hated the ammo intensive games with the attacker regen (b&^!*%$t) which you were throwing your money away.

Crossfire is nice and friendly and they take care of you.

If you have a gun licence you can the paintball pellets in the shop in Bray (if its still there)

still trying to figure a way out not to fog up the masks?

I shall get a few friends to come along, can you please confirm the date.

    regards

    RDC

IF you want to stop/lessen the goggle fog , we used to use
Ski goggle spray ,available in any sky shop (ireland ??? ) worked
ok for us , also use something to cover your head , bandana etc
stops build up of heat ,while were on the subject anyone
know of anyone in Ireland that does constant air?

Another way to stop google fog (althouhg not as effective as spray) is to keep the bottom of the face mask uncovered (ie. not inside the hood) and breath down, not into the mask (sounds strange, but it works).

ALso, don't cover the vents at the top of the facemask with the hood of the nbc suit. - leave it just sitting behind the vents as such.

    It's all about air circulation!!

It turns out that trains from cork to dublin ARE running on the 13th of july so we won't have to change the date.
That's the final date everybody :D

Oh, and to all those ppl who say "Yeah I'll sign up for that" or "Put me down for that", you actually have to sign yourselves up or nothing will happen. ok?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,149 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

To back LeadMagnet up on his calls for people to actually sign up .......

closer to the actual date, if I'm given pretty much exact figures by LeadMagnet, I may be able to get the group a further discount (or an ammo bonus or something).

So lpease, if you're gonna go, sign up!! :D
