    Oh heres the story...

Installed red hat 7.2 on a seperate hd. Using lilo i get the option when i turn on the comp to load linux or dos.

The problem is that the second hard disk i installed linux on is fupped. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt so im left with just a blank ms-dos screen with a L in the top left corner...

What i want to do is remove the lilo boot loader from my C:\ drive (hd1) and just throw out the other hard disk and forget about linux altogether :)

(is it just a case of deleting the lilo file wherever it is on my c:\ drive)

you see if i take out the borked hd it says invalid boot disk and goes no further.

I cant turn my comp off until i get this sorted...

btw im running running win xp pro.

    help help help...

    Chief (linux n00b btw)

(sorry to anyone i was speaking to on sat night. v v v drunk.)

    Yes you pratt :p

I'm assuming it will (sometimes) boot into Windoze for ya. All you do then is go to the command prompt and type fdisk /mbr and all should be hunky dory. OK? You think you can manage that? :p

if you can boot ur redhat system at all. do the following.

lilo -u /dev/hda where hda is the primary disk where the lilo is contained in the mbr.

note: this will no be a partition like /dev/hda3 it will be the device name only.

    Regards,

    Paul

Don't even know why you would want to get rid of linux :(
But what flamegrill just said is fine, if you wish to remove the lilo master boot record from your hard drive, just put in a windows boot disk and use fdisk to change the mbr like what seamus just said, but reallly, you should just format c: and burn your XP disk, through it in a locked container and then hide it in the next space shuttle to leave planet earth. Then reinstall linux :)

Or the next time you could just kee your lilo record on a floppy, this was you won't have to worry about overwriting your current mbr and messing it up.

Anyways best of luck, im off for din dins
